I don't think either is harder than t'other. Playing slow sometimes involves strange timing and playing fast means good dexterity for example.

Equally I think neither can claim to be better. A real musician will know what sounds best given the circumstances. That said, shredding usually always sounds awful IMO. It's probably worth noting I draw a line between playing something fast and Shredding (playing something ridiculously fast and so loosing most of the feel and timing...).

The biggest downfall of people who try to play things as fast as possible is that they just throw in way too many notes I think. Jaco Pastorius, one of my most favourite musicians, could play incredibly fast and play so many notes in a bar without making it sound like too many nor did it never (usually) sound crap. Which I think is what makes a good musician in some ways.

Just my take.

it all depends on what you're playing and such, a slow song can be much harder than a bunch of the same power chord played very fast.... as for listening to, i like a bit of both worlds.... i prefer the emotion of most slower stuff like clapton, etc. but its nice to get a change of pace every so often

I think that it's hard to incorporate fast solos into slow songs, and vice-versa.

I play mostly Blues so I'm working on my phrasing and Blues vocabulary.

BTW - My shredding days ended with a gym accident. Dumbbell on the ring finger of my fretting hand

Like the great Billy Gibbons once said, "play what you know". I dont play beyond my ability, and what I play sounds good. But sometimes I play better than I can, I love it when that happens.

Both can be difficult at times, but whats most difficult at times is going from one to the other...
