I have it bad. Only been at this for 2 yrs and still have trouble playing the six guitars I own (1 California Tele, 2 American Strats, Les Paul Std, Taylor Acoustic, Pbass) but feel a need to take it up a notch and buy a Fender Custom Shop Strat. Looking for a strat but not much on CL or in local GC. Have been stalking ebay for 2 weeks with a couple of close calls but unable to close the deal yet. I have been taking care of the symptoms thus far by practicing a few songs and if the weather holds out a mountain bike ride will help. Anyone have other good ideas?

G.A.S. is incurable. Even if you buy a Custom Shop model there will be another G.A.S. pain. Keep in mind the more guitars you have, the more difficult it is to thoroughly get to know each one of them. I know this because I have 10 guitars and sometimes have trouble deciding which is my favorite and I still get G.A.S. I have a considerable amount of money invested and for me it is just a hobby. To top it off, although I have played for a long time, I dont feel like my playing skills warrant the amount of gear I have for use as a hobby. Good thing my wife is so supportive of my guitar habit.

Gas is easily cured.
Get yourself some gear your happy with, stop buying guitar mags and stop looking at adverts.

Off to get my final purchase tomorrow (a vintage 30 loaded 4x12) then I have no need for anything else. Good guitars into good amps with decent speakers. The rest of it is just peas and gravy. The meat and potatoes are already on the plate.

How to cure GAS... Lose your day job... and try to live on tips and "attaboys" and other assorted accolades or worse... criticisms.

 I just spent $30.00 for a nine volt adapter kit with various +- patch cords just so I could work my 1986 Digitech chorus flanger (that I found in my closet) into the pedal board. I guess you're SOL friend.

My GAS has been cured for the most part. Like nikininja I have quality gear that I like and I have suffered so much GAS in the past buying guitars and amps on a whim and later finding out they weren't "for me" that I know quite intimately how easy it is to make a bad buy. Without a compelling impediment GAS can be self perpetuating at times. Cash flow not quite being what it was a few years ago it now takes something seriously cool or different to pique my curiosity these days. So that's my compelling impediment and truth be told, I'm glad it's there. For me GAS was like an addiction like drugs or gambling. Now that I'm in a different mind set if it's just another Les Paul or Tele or Strat I'm not interested. Been there, done that, tried them all. The only item left on my list to address is my Blues Junior. I'm not happy with it but I'm not finished deciding what to do about it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I note that it always gets a little bit worse when I have a little extra money in the bank account. Latest occurence caused by tax refund. Quality gear is also a good antidote. My Taylor 814ce cured my desire to look at any more acoustics. I am hoping a custom shop strat will end my run on electrics. After that I will only have to suffer through a few more amps since I only own 5 of them (Blues Jr, Vox AD30, Vox 5W, Marshall 15W, Bass amp). I guess I should start reading the amp threads soon.

Having pockets as deep as a clown's helps, as long as they're full of cash that is
