Just got back yesterday from the yearlong deployment to Iraq:Photos of the two US Army Popular Music Performance Teams (MPT) that make up the Popular Music Performance Detachment (MPD) from the 56th Army Band based out of Joint Base Lewis-McChord, WA. The two MPTs were recently on a yearlong deployment to Iraq in support of OIF 09-10 where each team had the opportunity to travel and perform for their fellow servicemen and women at numerous bases large and small throughout the country, as well as the International Zone (IZ) Baghdad, and American and British Embassy Compounds. These are just some of the photographs that were taken by myself and others of our missions. (Many photos are excluded that were taken at the smaller FOBs, and Joint Security Stations for OPSEC reasons). But, you can rest assured that the Soldiers from these MPTs travelled by convoys through and to some of Iraq's more dangerous areas to bring a little bit of home to the troops.
The MPTs were based out of Camp Victory where we lived, rehearsed and coordinated our missions, but spent numerous days on the roads and visiting other bases. The MPD performed over 250 musical missions in Iraq, far outpacing similar groups that have gone before. Performances included playing for President Obama's first visit to Iraq as President, MNF-I Commander General Raymond Odierno and his Command Sergeant Major Wilson, MNC-I Commander LTG Jacoby and CSM Grippe, Sergeant Major of the Army Kenneth Preston, The US Ambassador to Iraq and other Ambassadors, numerous Generals from the Multinational Force, and other senior civilian dignitaries.
However the greatest satisfaction came from simply convoying, and spending time with and jamming for our fellow troopers in Iraq.
Hope you enjoy the photos.
