I've read several interviews with Jimi Hendrix and he was getting tired of playing Purple Haze,Fire,Foxey Lady etc. over and over and tired of people shouting out these song titles if he attempted something new.It was really apparent in his final months he felt as if his musical growth was being stunted.A big part of the reason the Beatles stopped touring was because they got tired of playing the same hits night after night.Even Elliott Smith tired of playing Waltz No. 2 in his all too short while in the spotlight. I guess it's the same for anyone who has a job where the work is repetitive to the point it becomes monotonous, but look at the money the stars make for monotony.

Doesn't matter how it makes you feel if it is your job and you are doing it for the money.

Now this leads me to a question. I'm a 36yo beginner, so I may be a little naive. But, how many people seriously get into music for the money? If it's your "JOB" doesn't that change everything? If you look at it as a job then you're only doing it for a check, so you should sing "Happy Birthday" if someone will pay you. If you're doing it for the love of the music, then who cares what song the audience wants to hear? You're not really there for them now are you?

thats a valid point, but i've come to appreciate how it feels to be a "human jukebox" (in the words of Hendrix). any real artist gets sick of the degenerate tendencies of the public audience. its a great party tune, but theres more to music than that. i see nothing fulfilling in writing a song that simply makes people want to make love/sex/babies. from experience as a cover band guitarist, that seems to be the only song type that gets attention in a bar. if its not danceable, people wont give you time of day. and that upsets me. theres no real appreciation for true art. i can get sick of playing those sex party songs real quick. its not rewarding. big deal, the people love it. its meaningless because the only reason why they love it is because their lubido goes crazy when they hear it. the modern audience today is a bunch of mindless puppets, gyrating their hips at the demand of a stimulus, such as songs like this. i call this the John Mayer effect...all those screaming women want his body, not his music or alleged "blues chops". a true artist can see right through any 50,000 person crowd.
