I've often wondered what the artist feels like when it comes time to play the fan favorites. Obviously it must vary from song to song and artist to artist but I can't help but think that after going through the writing process and then all of the practice that a band puts into a song before performing it that it must get pretty monotonous to play a famous song for literally the 1,000th time live in some cases. Maybe the rush of the fan reaction is enough to get through it...I don't know.

yeah ive seen several interviews where a similar question has been asked. some guys have said they've grown to hate the 'big' song and some say it feels great

ZZ Top said it when they played here a couple years back... "Three chords and thirty nine years... :? "

Yeah, it's gotta be a drag.

I actually heard an interview with this guy where he complained endlessly about how his fans only want to hear "She Ran (so far away)".

I never knew they played more than one song.

I saw that one too, VH1 one hit wonders....he got pretty passionate about how much he disliked the song. It pay$ the bills though.
Passionate guy that one is, passionate with the hairspray....lol.

I'd hate to play the same songs over and over, all the time! Actually, I wouldn't even want to see a bar band more than once or twice unless they continuously add a lot of new material (not just 3 or 4 songs).

A band like Rush has such a large catalog of music that they could probably play a whole tour without repeating songs; except for their biggest hits, of course!

Led Zepplin hates the song Stairway to Heaven. In an interview some time ago they said the song was never meant to be what it became and they couldn't stand all of the requests to play it.

Don't worry Ringo, you just have to whistle the famous Beethoven's famous 9th Symphony.

...couldn't resist :D

From the interviews that I have read it appears that either the musician likes to play it over and some of it get tired. I can certainly understand getting burned out of playing the same song over and over, but at the same time that is what the people are paying to here.

Hello, world, here's a song that we're singin',
c'mon get happy
A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringin',
we'll make you happy

We had a dream we'd go trav'lin' together
We'd spread a little lovin' then we'd keep movin' on
Somethin' always happens whenever we're together
We get a happy feelin' when we're singin' a song

Trav'lin' along there's a song that we're singin',
c'mon get happy
A whole lotta lovin' is what we'll be bringin',
we'll make you happy
We'll make you happy,
we'll make you happy

Yeah most bands grow indifferent to their hits and just power through them. I think the only saving grace is the crowd pop they get for playing them.

A lot of bands don't play a lot of the 'old' stuff because they feel they've matured past it.

Having said that Clapton makes a living on playing nothing but hits in concert. Is it fun for him? who is to say, but having 20,000 people pay $66+ dollars per ticket a night is worth it when you get the check....Do the math

$66, $90, $128 for the floor. WOW!!

I went to a party once and brought some CDs with me. A guy started looking through them and pulled out a Zep disc (one from the 4 disc boxset). He said to me "You brought Led Zeppelin and you didn't bring Stairway? It must be at home, locked in a glass cabinet."

I don't think they get tired of doing the same songs. Alot of the famous bands change thier set lists up in a way for each night that keeps them from doing it and for the big hits they almost always play them different every night. That's why most bands have a bunch of cover songs from other bands to keep things interesting for themselves.
