Any fans of the band Live here? I'm not a huge fan, have Throwing Copper (take it or leave it) had Mental Jewelry but lost it, didn't like the follow up to Copper. But I've been listening to The Distance To Here album a lot lately and this is definitely one of my all time favorite albums. The songs are great, Lyrics are great, and the guitar tones are stellar. It reminds me of the nice warm sound you'd here on a old rock album done by Mutt Lange. Anyway... my point is ... if there is one. If there are any fans of this band or this record, tell me what you think. Also wondering if some of their later stuff is this good.

Copper is a great album. this was definitely their pinnacle album imo. they got kinda sappy afterwards, especially on Birds of Pray, on which practically every song is about ed's daughter. i mean thats cool and all, but it had no edge. though there were a couple good ones there with a political commentary. i'm mixed on that album.

when i hear "mutt lange", i think def leppard, late AC/DC, and cheesy 80's rock. i often avoid it

Doh, I thought you were talking about The Band (as in Dylan) playing live.

I have the same 2 (Throwing Copper and The Distance to Here). I like them both but it was Throwing Copper that had me listening over and over - and over. Their other albums just didn't click for me. :?

Thanks for bringing them up - I've added them to the list for listening over the weekend.

I always thought the drummer was very talented. I'm not a drummer myself, but i felt he really stood out especially on Copper. Don't know his name but I do believe most of the guys in the band are from eastern PA.

That band takes me back. They are very cool. There's a lot of good memories that come with that band.

correct. York, PA. i live about 2 hours east of there.

the song "Pillar of Davidson" is the anthem of the town, so-to-speak. its named after harley davidson and i think caterpillar tractors, but i'm not sure about the Pillar part.

Yeah, i just meant the guitar tones on albums such as "Back In Black"-AC/DC and "High and Dry" by Def Leppard. Especially the song Switch 625. The guitars on those records sound like your right in the live room with the amps the recording is so transparent and full of that nice warm 2 inch Tape-ity goodness.

Wow Msvolpe to me Mutt Lange is a genius. How many guys could take a country album and make it go 20x platinum-not many. As for Live I liked a few of there earlier cuts but always thought of them as REM junior.

I liked Mental Jewelry...I guess Throwing Copper was a decent CD, but I got burnt out on that CD since as DJ I had to play the 3-4 "hit" songs off that CD a few thousand times between 1996-2005. And while that helped them sell a crapload of copies for Throwing Copper, I think it might have made other people burnt out on that band too as their other releases since have been decent, but didn't seem to take them as far as Throwing Copper....
