Not hugely. He is deceitful. He lures you in with cool songs like "i want to fly" and "are you gona go my way", and then when you buy an album, its only got one cool song and the rest belong in chick flicks.

"so many tears ive cried..". i can relate to that line, having bought his greatest hits!

I've always had a soft spot for Lenny. He had many big songs through the years that always seemed to come out at good moments in my life. He's a fun musician to listen to.

I like his "American Woman" cover from the 5 album. And "Fly Away" is catchy as hell. Good tune. Yeah, Lenny's alright. 8)

really? I thought it was terrible, he didn't get what the song was really about.

I'm listening to it right now. What's to miss about "American Woman get away from me, Momma let me be"... "I don't need your war machines, I don't need your ghetto scenes"?  I don't think the meaning is all that deep. Granted, the Guess Who don't get credit enough for all the influences they put on the music world. They did some GREAT songs! 8)

One of the best moments in my concert-going life was when the house lights went down at Fair Park Colliseum in Dallas, and the announcer said, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Lenny Kravitz!"

I didn't know he was going to play that night. He was the unannounced opening act for the Cult...this was directly after the Mama Said album came out (1991?). I only knew "Always on the Run" and one other tune of his at the time, but he proceeded to rock the house for the next 45-50 minutes.

Great performer and great musician (found out later that he often plays every instrument on his albums). I know many people rag on him because of his pop appeal, and some people don't like his album tracks (the non-singles), but overall, I like him quite a bit...even his slow-jam "chick flick" songs.

Im torn on Lenny.

On the one hand, I like his hard rocking style. He plays loud and his songs are fun in sort of "basics" kind of way. Good, plain-old rock. Lenny is also one of those "perpetually cool" guys, like David Bowie and Grace Slick and Slash.

On the other hand, his music is not sophisticated and, in my opinion, he may "borrow" too much from other writers. He's never really done anything inspirational, but he's a moody and selfish performer.

I'll give you an example of what I mean. I recently saw Lenny play at The Myst in the Twin Cities. Its one of those big concert clubs that caters to B-tier acts that cant sell out the big arenas and auditoriums. Anyway, I was talking to the security staff (yeah...were in the VIP section  ) who were scoffing at Lenny because he inisted that NOBODY, including club staff, be in the building while he walked the stage and tuned up. They called him the biggest primadonna they'd ever seen. Well, whatever.

Anyway, the concert opened great. Extremely loud...so loud that it hurt everyones ears. People were complaining. But the crowd started getting into it as he started playing his popular songs.

We were with another couple and he is a guitarist too. He's really into music. Anyway, we were listening and having fun and then I started to recognize the guitar work....the solo's especially.

They were all solo's from other songs. Not kidding at all. Totally serious. Like note-for-note. The lead guitarist played the solo from Stairway to Heaven in one of Lenny's songs. I pointed it out to my buddy who agreed completely. The more we payed attention, the more we noticed solo after solo. It was laughable and we turned it into a joke-game. "What solo is this?" If you answered correctly first, the loser bought the next round.

I was very disappointed. Might as well have been lipsynqing as far as Im concerned.

So, he's fun. But I cant take him seriously anymore.

Not to bothered really by the person, im more interested in the music. But most great singers are slightly different, i think is the best way to put it. Axl Rose (Early guns days), scot weiland, mick jagger, david bowie for example.

Btw which song has the same solo as are you gonna go my way?
