I know that even the very young are familiar with the iconic muscle cars of the 60s and the finned classics of the 50s but what's peoples favourite car of pre 1950 and the war years?I've always loved Packards especially the 34-36 dual cowl phaetons a truly beautiful car it's the epitome of styling from that era and as far as I'm concerned the most beautiful thing on wheels.Anyone else got dream cars from this vintage?

They made cars before 1950? Weren't they called horseless carriages then?

Ok seriously, I've alwyas been partial to the 33 Ford Coupe (i.e. ZZ Tops Eliminator) and the 41 Willys (The hood just made that car unique).

I know both of those were Hot Rod-ish type cars, but I'm a 70's child, born in the age of Muscle Cars (at least toward the end of it anyway), so I can't help myself.

Cords or the Airflow, Believe it or not the Volkswagen Beetle falls into that pre 50's category. It's one of my favorites!- :D -N

Thanks for the link SBLS made very good reading sadly the closest thing to a Dual Cowl Phaeton was the 34 Series 8 1101 Convertible Sedan if I ever win a lottery I'll be having a vintage Packard maybe even a Phaeton at around $ 3-500,000.Nevin Hitler also used a Maybach extensively for his personal limo, they looked very much like the Mercedes which as you said he also used. It's too bad that they didn't have the same problem as Toyotas and accelerated over a cliff or into a wall.

Dusenberg SJ is about as hot as a pr-50 car gets, in this opinion.

Add the Mecedes 504K, as well.

I saw one of those at the Blackhawk Auto Museum ... ultra rare. They had it behind ropes and signs saying "Do not touch!" Me and my buddy laughed and said, "It's a Royale. When would we ever get another chance to even touch a car like this?" So, yes, we leaned wayyyyy over and touched it ... It probably freaked out the security guy who was likely watching us on camera.
