Mar 21, 1952 - Cleveland officials claim the term rock 'n' roll was coined by the late Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed, whom they also credit with promoting the first rock concert on March 21, 1952.

If my memory serves me right (on what I've read) Alan Freed first used the term Rock And Roll while introducing a young black musician who was getting his first airtime. That young man was no other than Chuck Berry. Alan Freed has been credited for changing the racial view of young Americans at the time, by playing mostly "black" music.

Later his career would be destroyed by the Payola scandal.
