O.K so I was on craigslist looking at guitars and i stumbled upon 3 guitars that I would like. The First a jagstang.I LOVE nirvana and i know kurts relatives so that would be awesome to get one.The second a jaguar.Jaguars have always apealed to me.I have liked the body.Third the jazzmaster.Ever since I figured out thurston moore had a jazzmaster guitar line I have always wanted one.So what do you think.I would prefer anyone who owns or has played one please let me know what you think about the three. The jagstang is cheapest at $450 the jaguar is at $500 or $600(i cant remember)and the jazzmaster is the highest at $625.It would be cool knowing that the jagstang is rare and that I have a chance to get it in red and that it would be worth a lot in 30 years or so,And that it is a combo and I have always wanted a jaguar and a mustang to what better way then to get them in one package.

Note:I will eventually get each of those and a mustang and cyclone.

The Jagstang was made for Cobain in mind but from what I've read he hated it.

I like the Mustang but I'm a Tele man the whole way and if I was to ever get a different Fender it'd be a Strat.

It is strictly Strats and Teles for me in the Fender department. For some reason I just dont connect with any other models.

I have a 65 Jag and I can say from personal experience that it is a great and very versatile guitar capable of producing many tones and it plays like a dream.

Yeah, from what I understand, Cobain wasn't all that happy with the way the Jagstang turned out. I vote for the Jaguar!

+1. I'm GASing out of control for a jaguar now, and have been for the past 3 months.

Go with the Jazzmaster, it was a solid attempt to create a unique guitar for a specific market/musical need. Not my fav Fender, but it's still a worthy guitar.

The Jaguar is tempermental and just plain ugly in my opinion. WHY? When there are so many better choices out there.

The JagStangs are a useless hybrid and were marketed solely in an attempt to cash in on Kurt Cobains suicide. Again WHY? When there are so many better choices out there.

Back in the 60s the Jaguar was the most expensive Fender and continued to be for years outpricing even the Jazzmaster by at least $100 it has never has it been regarded as a student guitar.I used my Jag a lot when gigging even for Hendrix covers,I've always found it to be a great player and very versatile. When you get used to it's little idiosyncrasies with switching it can be a perfect guitar for just about any type of music.

'Bought a new MIJ Jazzmaster in '95 (replaced pups with AVRI) and a Classic Player Jaguar last year. Superb instruments.

No interest at all in a Mustang or Jagstang.

But just think about it.The Jagstang is going to be a rare collectable in the future so get one now and sell it for a lot.

I'm not sure it would be half as collectible in terms of money as some other Fenders out there. Cobain hated it too.

It's no secret around here that I don't like Kurt Cobain but you obviously do, maybe you should respect his memory as I see this guitar as a blatant cash in on his memory that Fender know that young beginners like yourself, who are usually Nirvana fans, will buy. There are many products out there who cash in on dead rock stars, Hendrix etc.

Mind you, if you like it and are actually going to play it and it suits YOUR hands to play then go for it.

Just my 2 cents,

CC

I can't foresee the Jagstang ever reaching collectability status as it really has no redeeming attributes. It's a mismash of different styles and frankly is a poor guitar both aesthetically and in overall practicallity. The fact that Cobain himself was loathe to it has killed any hopes of it ever becoming a sought after relic.
