Without compensating saddles aren't they hard to keep in tune?Tele's that is.

You mean intonated? It gets you close enough...I mean seriously, many acoustic guitars are close enough, and those bridges allow for no adjustments at all, unlike a Tele bridge...Maybe I'm not as sensitive to it as others, but as long as the intonation is within a few cents, I cannot tell a difference. If its off like 1/4-step or more then that would be an issue...

I voted Tele but I agree with the general trend -- you need some of each.

Had I taken this pole 40 years ago (when I was 17 and playing rock), I'd have gone with the Strat. Lots of tone options to play with ... Hendrix ... the night I got turned on to Chicago blues it was via a blazing Strat in the hands of Luther Allison. And so on.

Then I didn't play for over 25 years but decided to treat myself with a guitar when I hit 50. Unlike at age 17, I had some money to play with and I'd grown very far away from the rock/LP sound of the past. I decided to get a Tele because I didn't plan on doing anything elaborate anyway.

But it grew on me -- no effects, no big amps -- just guitar and me and what I could get out of it. And even now that I have 2 Strats (SSS and SSH) and a few Teles, when I just want to play something and have it be me, I reach for the plain ol' basic Tele every time.

This time around, I wasn't even thinking of any particular artist or sound I was going for. Just myself and my little ancient Champ.

got both , why no answer for that in the poll as I love them both , they do different things in different ways but like your kids you don't play favourites .
