I got a beer holder on my guitar stand. Probably not your first choice in accessories, i find it indispensable though.

A small toolkit to do your own setup would be a good gift.

Dude! Award yourself 50 points for the beer holder!

+1 for the tool kit, that will prove to be very handy (If not used to do setups, would be handy for fitting a beer holder to a stand if nothing else!).

Enjoy!

Andy

I haven't read all the way through... my bad... an inexpensive gift of a set of strings? If a tech puts them on and does a basic setup/intonation you're looking at maybe $35-$40? 8)

       Actually, that would make an excellent accessory. Jamming on my Squier with a Guinness. Maybe my playing will sound better.

Can you give me an example of a toolkit for a setup? I have a winder/cutter and a neckrest, but that's about it.

Twelvebar--I didn't even think of that!!! A metronome. That's a great idea! Any suggestions? There are so many out there. I can't believe a wooden one is $120! geez.

The metronome idea is a good one. If you don't get one (and apart from the website listed) and you have an iPhone there's also the Guitar Toolkit app (only a few dollars) or the Gibson iPhone app which is free.

A Snap Jack cable is a cool idea if you have more than one electric--you don't have to unplug the guitar & turn off (or down) the amp to switch guitars--especially if you have extra plugs for more than one guitar.

Check them out. I love mine.
You can even use it as a kill switch.

And there's this string cleaner--which is a cool idea.

As well as a bunch of other ideas others posted.

Toolkit eh? I must admit a good metronome is the best idea I've read here.

Here's what I'd go with for a toolkit.

Get one that starts at zero, indispensable for setting string height.

Forego a lot of the bigger drivers for a set of jewellers screwdrivers, if you can. Make sure whatever set you get includes a PH1 (for pickguards/backplates) and a PH2 (for necks, etc) sizes.

There are other things you can get if your feeling adventurous. Their use largely depends on how far you want to go. I dont muck about with these neck rests though. You need something slightly different to support every neck. I usually use some old clothes, blankets, cushions, whatever gets a nice comfortable bit of support.
Heres the beer holder

Though I do think $15 is a extortionate amount to pay for one. I'd prefer $15 worth of Guiness. Ever wonder why its black with a white top? Do they ever get a batch of upside down guiness that comes out with the white bit at the bottom?

I think I'll forgo the toolkit right now. Looks too complicated for this beginner.

That beverage attachment.      Well, I'll need a stand first.

Maybe I should get a more durable strap? I have my cheapo one that came with my guitar, my Badtz Maru (which is too long because stupid me didn't read it was for a BASS guitar), and one made in Chicago that has flames on it. I saw a Levy one with playing card symbols on it that looked cool. I know they're a little pricey, but a leather one might be nice? dunno.

Where you have a Beatles song as your signature you must be a fan, Planet Waves makes some very cool Beatle guitar straps.

I was thinking about that, but I'm not sure if the strap would match the guitar. Not sure if anyone else thinks about those things, but I want to make sure the strap doesn't clash.

If you don't have a good strap, I'd say it's important to get a good one, unless you only play sitting. Even then a strap can come in handy.

Go one step further... add strap locks! 8)
