On the Andy Griffith show from the 60's, there were a couple of episodes with James Best playing a guitarist named Jim Lindsey. He was always playing hot lics on an old archtop guitar, and later on a Fender Jaguar or Jazzmaster. Does anyone know the name of the guitarist that was really playing the guitar lics that Jim Lindsey was fakin?

I think that it was Herb Ellis.

Please don't ask me why I think so, because I haven't a clue. The name just sticks in my mind connected with that show.

The best answer I could find was the guitarist was a jazz guitarist by name of Herb Ellis. Don't know how true that is.

And the scruffy band of hillbillies that always came down and caused trouble and then played a song or two -
That was the Dillards. Doug Dillard is one of the finest bluegrass banjo players in existence.
