Although the guitar is an essential in rock music the organ has played an integral part of a lot of rock songs and has started many popular songs with readily identifiable riffs.Songs like Procol Harums"Whiter Shade of Pale"played by Matthew Fisher is a rock classic.? and the Mysterians "96 Tears"played by Frank Rodriguez and Frank Ingles of the Iron Butterfly's "Ina Gadda da Vida"are both organ driven songs that have gone down in the annuls of rock history as classics. Not since Bach's ominous 3 note intro to the "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor" had the organ been so popular as it was in the 60s.Can anyone think of more songs that started with great organ riffs or had great organ parts such "the House of the Rising Sun" as played by Alan Price of The Animals ?I'm sure there are more out there I know of one organist/keyboardist in particular I've purposely not mentioned.BTW the "French Horn" solo on Lefte Bank's "Walk Away Rene was done on a Hammond B-3.

I always loved Foreplay/Longtime by Boston. Tom Sholz really did a fine job on that old Hammond B3...that song just gets me in so many ways!:)

My mind is blank right now. I can't remember the name of the song but the organist Garth starts a great song off for the Band. Help me think of it. 8)

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
