My mods always serve a purpose.
On my black strat the wiring takes it from the most skullcrushing metal applications (way better than a emg81/85 set) to decent'ish kind of strum along acoustic type stuff. The nuts modded so its intune all over the fretboard. It's soon getting s1 switching added to it.

Telecasters got the same nut mod and 6 switch options courtesy of fender.

My deluxe isnt modded or played that much. It's got enough switching on it already. No real need for it at the moment.

My customshop has been retromodded as it had deluxe s1 switching as stock. I didnt need 2 guitars doing the same thing, so I put a nice set of bareknuckle pickups in it and wired it as a stock strat. Not even a tone control on the bridge pickup.

The Vintage Hotrod isnt modded. It also is not really used. Great guitar the finish is just too fragile for live use. I cant really see where or how to mod it to any improvment over whats already in it, that I need. I am considering adding the telecaster neck/bridge switch option to it via a megaswitch. Instead of having the middle pickup option.

My Jackson dinky now has the above mentioned emg 81/89 set in it along with a clapton midboost.

I've a lespaul copy with a out of phase neck pickup and serious fretwork. I put a the upper fret drop off idea of classical guitars into it, except I dropped off every fret bar the first. Very tricky but do-able. Plays great, really really low action around .7mm at the 12th fret with minimal buzz and no choke. Only really applicable to gibson style guitars due to their neck angle.

I have most of my stuff stock, but I have done some mods.

I have one I put locking tuners on, because I thought they looked cool.

I have done refinishes on some guitars, one because it was beat to hell, and a couple just for the hell of it.

I have swapped pickups out, on a couple guitars.

I would say my number one reason for modding is that I like to tinker.

However, I would never 'destroy' an instrument. The first mods I ever did, and still the majority of them, were repairs, or changes made while repairing.

I have actually bought stuff for the sole purpose of redoing it.

Some , like the upcoming P-Bass refinish are experiments, and learning exercises. (I should be starting the P-bass thread soon!)

I have to salvage some pictures off a crashed hard drive, that one, plus 2 other projects are actually started. Not far along, but underway.

for a Stratocaster, 2 words, Lace Sensor . 8)

+1

I love modding guitars. I have two heavly modded Partscasters / Frankinstrats. I'm working on naming them but until then we'll call them Strat 1 & 2

Strat 1: Re- sprayed (badly by me!) Artic white 3 piece aldur body with a wilkinson 6 screw trem. Lace Sensors (blue, silver, red) with a wilkinson mid-boost pre-amp via a push switch and another push switch to engage the bridge pup. Also a seriously fat 22 Fret satin finish maple neck with a 7.25" radius.

Strat 2: Ash body in aged white/ cream with two point pivot trem. Lace hot golds (with the 13.2k bridge) with S-1 swtch, Tbx tone control, Mini toggle switch fro the bridge pup and the Clapton / Buddy guy mid-boost. It also has 22 fret rosewood fret board with a compund radius and the Fender LSR roller nut.

Strat 3: In production....Might sort out a thread for the build!

I'll get some pic's up soon.....

Enjoy

Andy

When I`m buying a guitar I play a number of them until I find the sound I`m looking for....then leave it the way it came from the factory.
