I just got this guitar and was wondering what you guys think of floating bridges? I was thinkin this might be neat with a bigsby??

BTW, its a natural finish ibanez af 105 hollow body with flamed maple top and back, rosewood fingerboard, pearl and abalone, and gold hardware. not bad for my first id say.

heres a few pics and tell me what you think of floating bridges, i felt a little odd playing it.

Hi Radiohead: I love the idea of Bigsbys - never found one I liked in reality. Even the lightest shimmer sends 'em out of tune, under my hand anyhow.

Also, I wouldn't dream of doing anything to alter that nice looking guitar. If you want a Bigsby, look for a different guitar that already has one fitted. And try before you buy - it might be different than you imagine!

Love the pickguard, by the way. And the knobs. And the neck inlays. And the side wood. And the finish. And...

If that guitar ain't turning out to be quite what you hoped, pass it on to someone who wants it more, why not? :D

Cheers - C

The tuner keys, do you mean? They are not going to be real mother-of-pearl. For starters, have you seen the price of it? And secondly, you don't get it in big enough lumps to make tuner knobs from.

Your knobs will be pearloid plastic. Nutt'n wrong with that - we're all partial to a bit of pearloid now and again.

On the other hand, the middle bits of the position markers on the fingerboard look like real green abalone, so there's nothing cheap about that. Nice!

i have a similar Ibanez

the AF85

Image

I put a Bigsby on it and LOOOOVVVEEEE it. Never had a tuning issue and it adds to the fullness of the over all tone as well (added mass). I say do it and i think you'll love it too.

I was going to say "no, you are better off leaving it alone". HOWEVER, after seeing Vjcor's, I have completely changed my mind. Get the Bigsby, and
do it today. Sweet guitars, guys (especially your post-mod one, Vjcor).

Cool big jazzbox. Dig it.

'Prersonally, 'find floating bridges kind of hip, a welcome diversion form the ubiquitous Fender trems and screwed-in Tune-o-matics.

Personal thought is "Let it Be" (vibrato-less).

I just bought me an Ibenez artcore 85, same cool maple finish. i would like to put a bixby on it with the rolling tune-o-matic. I see someone here did that, could you please tell me what bixby you ordered for this guitar, and did you keep the stock bridge on it or?
Thanks Steve
