No offense.

LMAO! That about says it all. Besides, the way Lee often sings with his excessively high pitched vocals, he sounds like either his underwear is extremely tight and therefore, most brutalizing or his target audience are dogs as only they can hear some of those frequencies he comes out with. And let's face it, Rush is predominantly a platform to showcase Peart. Most of their tunes have way too many changes for the liking of mainstream audiences which prefer the familiarity of Sonata Form in the majority of the popular music they enjoy.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.

All three bandmembers are very talented, but Peart is the genius behind the band, agreed. No offense, Martian, but the statistics about Rush's album sales, magazine reader poll results, etc, tend to show their appeal, maybe even mainstream appeal. Fourth in sales behind the Beatles, Stones and Aerosmith? That's not exactly an obscure novelty act that appeals only to a narrow demographic.

Well, let's put it this way: I could listen to The Beatles, Stones and Aerosmith infinitely longer than I could listen to Rush and statistically, I'm sure I'm far from alone on this one.

Rush is too good to be performing next to giant inflatable beavers and mounties. Plus as stated in previous posts, they aren't as universally accepted as the other artists, usually only Rush fans like Rush, everybody else usually has a WTF type of reaction.

I am going to get flamed for this and probably deserve to as they are great musicians but I could never get into them. The lead singers voice is I guess a required taste.

In Rolling Stone's review of Rush's first album (this is back in the '70s), they said Geddy's voice sounded "like a cross between Robert Plant and Donald Duck". It is okay that you do not like them. I just launched this thread because Rush ... to me ... is one of the best rock bands of all time, capable of decades of consistantly great music. It is a shame to not acknowledge them as embassadors of Canada. Just think how cool it would have been for Rush to launch into "YYZ" after Neil Young ended, with some Olympic visual wildness as the backdrop. The place could have soared ...

As a devoted Rush fan... I should probably just keep a safe distance from this one. I completely understand the aversion to Geddy's voice, but their sound, especially that of the mid 70s to 1980 prog rock sound would not have work with any other singer IMO. Frankly i'm glad the "Over the hill has beens" were spared from sharing the Limelight (no pun intended) with a bunch of "Never should have beens"

Rush? Seriously? RUSH?!?!?!?! Just because you guys break out the over-the-hill hasbeens for your big events doesn't mean we have too.

I don't care if they have to come out with Walkers! I only hope that if they do, they get the ones that you can turn around and sit in so they can stay on stage and play longer! I will always love Rush, eh!

My son, early 20's, into trent rezner, nine inch nails etc. went to the sars concert, '02 or there 'bouts.

After I was interested to hear his impression of the rolling stones. He said they were ok but rush was great. That surprised me but those were his words.

Alex has appeared on the most important of all Canadian cultural venues, trailer park boys.

I never was a Rush fan, mainly because Geddy Lee's voice put me in mind of a cat undergoing vivasection. The guitar playing is superb but their music just has never moved me.At least they had the good sense not to have Nickelback anywhere near the place.
