Why, oh why, was Rush snubbed at the opening and closing ceremonies for the Olympics??
Does Canada not look on Geddy, Alex, and Neil as a national treasure?? Ohhh, I am dismayed by your choices...

I didn't watch the ceremonies myself but, maybe I would have had Rush been on the billing. 8)

Maybe because Canadian born Neil Young's song "Long May You Run" was a better choice?

I'm very surprised considering I thought that Rush was one of the most well known Canadian bands ever.

I did not see it. If what is quoted above is true, that is sad.

Rush have excellent credibility in limited circles (like our little circle here in the guitar slash music enthusiast world) and in some circles they have an almost cult following but they have not had much in the way of recent success in the charts. They haven't had a hit single in a really really long time. For that reason and maybe a few other reasons they are not currently on the minds of people around the globe when they think of Cannuck celebrity.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I think the photo says it all, lol. They look like geography teachers and play like Maths teachers IMO.

No offense.

Didn't watch... did they have the tragically hip?

Sadly, no Hip. I was waiting to see if they would play. We did get Neil Young, Nickleback, Avril Lavigne, Alanis Morisette, Hedley, Simple Plan, K-OS, Micheal Buble and a couple of French bands, but I can't remember their names.

LMAO! That about says it all. Besides, the way Lee often sings with his excessively high pitched vocals, he sounds like either his underwear is extremely tight and therefore, most brutalizing or his target audience are dogs as only they can hear some of those frequencies he comes out with. And let's face it, Rush is predominantly a platform to showcase Peart. Most of their tunes have way too many changes for the liking of mainstream audiences which prefer the familiarity of Sonata Form in the majority of the popular music they enjoy.

As always, this is merely IMO where YMMV.
