Hi Gang,
Why are the Strings on an acoustic, harder to press down than an electric, to make the same note or chord?

They're a much higher gauge and have a lot more tension on them.

Since an acoustic guitar's sound is produced by vibrations from the wood top, heavier gauge strings are required (creating larger vibrations, resulting in more sound). Unfortunately, heavier gauge strings are harder to press down & bend to get a clean sound.

My acoustics are set up with 12-54 strings and it plays just as easy as my Agile set up with 10-46 strings or my Silvertone with 9's. I think it's all in the set up. Then again i have large hands and strong fingers and my set up is usually a little higher than most people.

Acoustics also have a much higher action on the norm.

That is unless you like me and lower the action.

You have an Agile? What kind? I've considered buying one but never did. How is it?

In this opinion, a nice acoustic can be set up to play just fine with 11s, albeit with somewhat anemic volume and sustain.

I have the Agile AL3100 and to me it is a really nice guitar and one of the best as far as Les Paul styles go. They are worth the money for sure. If you get one you might want to swap out the pickups though because the Alnico Vs that came in mine get kinda muddy at high volumes but other than that it's great.

I use D'Addario 10-46 strings with a 18 wound G on all my acoustics and even though they're a light guage string they all sound great.

I own 2 Agile's. One is an Ovation Copy A/E and the other is an A/E Bass. Both play and sound excellent to me.
