Why are you a Fender player? Gibson is an equally established brand favored by many famous musicians, and their is quality well-known, PRS is an up-and-coming power player, and several other companies make decent guitars (Schecter, Ibanex, BC Rich, Minarik). So why do you play Fenders?

I have a Gibson LP, a Gretsch, a Fender Strat and Tele. The Fenders are more comfortable to me. The LP is heavy, I just like the feel of the Fenders better.

Gibson happens to be quite spendy. That's one reason. So is epiphone for that matter. I haven't seen a 700 dollar Squier yet, and I doubt I will.

My b. I did a search for "why fender" and nothing was found. If it's an old topic (which I figured it would be, but didn't find it) we can just let it die.

It's cool. Good topic. Let me see, I like the looks, sounds I can get, the feel of the necks, ease of replacing parts, priced right for most folks, quality instrument, and I always wanted what my heroes used!! How's that for a start? :)

Personally, I love numerous things about Strats in general:
1) Very pretty, comfortable and playable
2) Great to modify and create "project guitars"
3) Huge tonal change from an HH Gibson to an SSS Strat

That being said, I still love my '79 Gibson SG alot, too ...

Because Fender has not come up with recent brilliant innovations like Kiefer Sutherland signature guitars, robot guitars, swiss cheese guitars, dyslexic guitars, and fruitstripe gum technicolor dreamcoat guitars...

Fender necks are much easier to play for me than Gibsons because I have stubby fingers and the Gibson necks are just a little too fat. Fenders are also within my budget, kinda. A thousand bucks for an american strat / tele or $2000 for a Les Paul Standard? No contest. They sound better for blues and clean. I love my strat and plan on buying many more.

I apologize if I sounded snarly, but I keep seeing the same questions and just thought it would be a good idea if more people knew how to use the search tool. Here's one of many :

The people who ride Harley Davidson bikes have a response for that kind of question. When someone asks them "Why Harley?" they respond, "if you have to ask the question you wouldn't understand the answer."

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Honestly, i have never played a guitar BESIDES my 1965 Univox HR-2 (which i'm about to modify and will post the progress on this forum) That has the feel of a Stratocaster body or neck.

Gibson has their dimensions, and i just don't have the feel for them. Body contour, weight, and maple fretboard have a lot to do with it as well. You just don't get that with other brands. Fender also has 6 different neck profiles.

I wanted to learn to play guitar so I figured, if I bought a good "brand name" like a Fender, then I would be removing at least one obstacle to learning to play well. And I think the MIM Stratocaster offers about the best bang for the buck when talking quality entry-level electric guitars. It feels good in my hands and I love the sounds I get with it. It's hard enough to learn by yourself without having a guitar that plays like a kazoo. 8)

Besides... it's just cool as all heck to watch TV and see some guy like Clapton on stage playing a black Stratocaster and being able to look across the room at my own. :P
