Ishmael by Daniel Quinn. It changed how I think about everything.

'Was not going to get in this one, but since so many have, what the hey.

'Have likely read everytthing (British mid-20th century author) Cecil Scott Forester ever wrote, several times.

First it was the whole run of Horatio Hornblower novels, about a Brit who joined the Royal Navy of the late 1700s as a teen and rose to admira in the Victorian times. Fascinating history through his eyes. And the author also did some excellent real-time writing right after WW I. "The General" and "The African Queen" are immortal stories. "The Sky And The Forest" was magnificent, told from the POV of an African who was captured by slavers.

Written during WW II. His "The Nightmare" was the most horrific account of Nazi behaviour this soul has encountered. "The Ship," "The Good Shepherd" and "Gold From Crete" were outstanding on the Royal Navy of WW II.

I guess I have simple tastes in reading. My job requires lots of troubleshooting and thought, with the associated headaches.

When I read I want a good story, but without the Tom Clancy-type attention to detail.

My absolute favorite was the first Stephen King book I ever read, the Stand, later the unabridged one made this book even better. Needless Things is a close second by King.

But I also like Dean Koontz, Robert R Mcammon, John Lescroart, Jonathan Kellerman, Tami Hoag, Greg Iles, and James Patterson.

East of Eden - John Steinbeck

Papillion - Henri Charrière,

Two classics in my opinion...

You know, I'm a monster Steinbeck fan, but I never could get into that one for some reason. I know it's a masterpiece, so maybe I need to give it another try. It's been 18 years since I tried the first time, so maybe it's time to give it a shot. 8)

I have a new favorite to add and I think everyone should read this book in their life at some point...

"The Traveler" by Daren Simkin. It takes about 5 minutes to read and has a lot of truth to teach us about this road called life.
