I am 36 and I just got my first cell. I do not intend on using for texting. Do you know why? I can enter in 7 digits and actually TALK to someone!!

Absolutely. Now that we have predictive text, full QWERTY keyboards and spell check. I can't understand why people just don't get it right.

Not this part of "we."

'Do not even carry a cell phone, let alone text.

And BTW, a source of microwave radiation continually up against your body is not good for it....

Yes it is. In R.I. where I live, they finally made it illegal for any driver to be texting and driving at the same time. I personally wish that those text message thingys were never invented, because IMO, they promote laziness and are also reponsible for a lot of auto related accidents and deaths.

i know thank god they finally did that.... however the fact that someone wanted to change the name from The State Of Rhode Island And Providence Plantations (i think that's right) because they found it racially offensive i think is a bit ridiculous

i do think texting is kinda dumb if you do it every minute of the day, but i live in the middle of nowhere, and i have to stand out on the porch if i want to talk to someone on my phone. so texting is a lot more convenient for me. and i rarely text anyway.

As I said, I hate texting when I see someone doing it while driving and I cannot stand the dumb shortcuts. YMMV

I view the cell phone as not just a phone, it's also a small computer. The text message is no more than an email and it has it's place. It certainly lets you send a message when you might otherwise not be able to reach the other party. Maintaining open lines of communication for an extended period? Umm... just place the call and get it over and done. 8)

The number of times I've had people nearly bump into me as they walk along head down texting. If you can't walk and text how can anyone expect to be able to drive and text?

The accidents show: you can't. Been illegal where I live for years - but you still see lots of people doing it...

Cheers - C

If I am in no particular hurry, and I generally haven't been since I retired, and I look in my mirror and see someone driving behind me so much as holding a cell phone to their ear... I slow down to about 10mph UNDER the posted limit. Because I can. If they can't drive safely... by God, I'm going to help them.

Texting is the new crack cocaine, or at least some people act like it is...They cannot go more than 5 seconds without texting someone...They must also check all received texts within 5 seconds...Just think how pathetic their lives would have been before cellphones....

Yes kiddies, there was time before cellphones and the internet...

Doesn't it just boggle the mind that the legislature saw the need to make it illegal for people to write letters on their cell phones WHILE DRIVING???

Yes it does boggle the mind. But understand that stupidity may kill... and that helps a bit, but it's not always the right people that die. So the legislature has to try to fix it as best they can. 8)

Don't get me wrong--I'm not saying that the legislature acted improperly. What I'm saying is that something as stupid as that shouldn't NEED a law. But clearly it does. What's truly unfortunate is that those who are stupid enough to text while driving, are stupid enough to continue despite the law.
