I like them, and I'm pretty old. I think that whenever a band becomes a success, the original fans who supported them in the early days feel betrayed. Like Dylan going electric, or Metallica getting haircuts...

Good band...even if Bilie Joe isn't a "great" player...most of my favorite players aren't "great" technical players....

Muddy Waters, Keith Richards, Lucinda Williams, Steve Cropper, Neil Young, John Lee Hooker, Hound Dog Taylor...none of them are great technical players, but they move me much more than Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, etc.

The cool thing about a band like Green Day is that they show that emotion and heart can be just as entertaining as pure skill on the guitar. You don't have to be Steve Vai or Satch to make music. I wouldn't consider myself a fan but I like to see how each player gets what they want out of their instrument.
