now, i know that most of the people on this forum probably hate green day. granted, that's probably for a good reason.

but, despite their lack of guitar skill, you have to admit that their lyrics are pretty amazing. well, by today's standards anyway.

was listening to american idiot on a car trip to alabama, so i thought i'd put that out there.

I really like them and think they are talented, and that is from a guy who hates punk.lol I think Billy Joe is a terrific rhythm player and writer and who would of though a punk band would be the ones to lay down the best bass riff of the last 20 years-Longview.

I like them, but I don't really like anything of the American idiot album though.
Mike Dirnt is an awesome bass player.

There way better live from what I've heard, planning on trying to find a show near me to see if that's true ^^

I like Green Day, especially A.I. and 21st Cent. as well as a lot of their earlier stuff. I gotta say, I get a little surprised by all the "lack of skill" references made about various artists in the forum. John Mayer gets alot of comments that are similiar too. If the music serves the song, who cares that the artists can't/ are not shredding like Vai? Am I the only one who feels this way? If only those who are extremely proficient players should be heard, I NEVER should've picked up a guitar. I play for fun, for relaxation and mostly for myself. I am probably the last person who would knock someone for being a techinical wizard of the fretboard. How do you all feel about this?

I do not listen to Green Day anymore, and really do not enjoy their newer stuff. Having said that i saw them in concert back in 2001 and it was probably the BEST performances by a life band i've seen to date.

They are very good performers and showmen.

I like their stuff but don't have the most recent album. Cool rhythms, big sounds - good stuff!

Bands like that are all about energy and working the crowd. Their live performances surpase recordings because of the interaction with the audiance.

To me that is the true definition of a "rock band". Once a band goes mainstream and gets cleaned up by producers and record companies they become stale and boring. They suck every bit of life out of them until it becomes a perfectly executed piece of @#$%.
