I used to have a great guitar tech. He tought me a ton of things.
He also owned a music shop, but unfortunatley it went out of buisness and we lost touch. Great friend and guitar guru.

So now I come here and ask everyone here for advice when I hit a wall.
I have been talked out of doing some dumb stuff to my guitars. I have also learned alot.
Thanks Again Everyone.....N- 8)

Lets hear about it people

Enjoy

What are you talking about? Some washable school paste, a bit of duct tape and a little strategically placed spackle would turn that guitar into a serious music machine; don't forget the shielding and star grounding!

Your mileage better vary on this one!!

Ha! :D

Tis but a stratch! I wonder what Ceri would do.....

Haven't used a tech yet. I don't like to pay people to do easy stuff when I can get so much good instruction for free from friends. Paying a tech would be silly after studying so hard for a Mechanical Engineering Degree.

I may... just once, pay the $35 for a re-string and setup to see how he does. I nailed the intonation by myself and don't think there's much else to do. The guitar plays like a dream... at least to my hands and ears it does. And isn't that all that matters? 8)

Hello!

If the tech's one of the good guys it will be worth every penny. Don't get me wrong, I love setting up my partscasters. I find it a true zen-like pleasure to do, but some things are best left to someone who maintains guitars for a living and not as a hobby. As I mention in my initial post, I have never achieved the standard that my tech can.

Sometimes you never realize what you've put up with until someone sorts you out.

Enjoy

I like to think of myself as a competent self taught guitar tech. since I maintain 13 guitars in my stable. However I do learn from watching others. I recently had a problem with one of my Strats where there was a little too much bow in the neck for my tastes and I couldn't get it out to save my life.

So I broke down and took it back to my Dealer and Luthier Jerry Tillman (shameless plug). 1st thing I forgot The American Standard has the bi-flex truss rod and I had inadvertantly tried to treat it like a normal truss rod. 2nd thing what I couldn't do in several hours and days of frustration he did in 15 minutes and didn't even charge me. He set the neck to my liking, adjusted the saddle heights, reintonated it, and handed it back to me. I consider my self fortunate to have access to such a great Luthier and one that extends such great service. Of course it doesn't hurt that I've spent a ton of money in his store...

Hi Andy: 36 pounds, eh? So for those of us this side of the pond, care to name and locate that tech for anyone as might find it useful? Sounds like he's earned a plug!

Back in the day I used to get excellent service from Graham in the gloomy basement cave beneath Music Ground (used to be called Andy's) in Denmark Street, London.

Long time Forum users will remember our conversation regarding how Graham's set up charges generally included many cups of coffee and hours of chat. Then Nikininja asked whether biscuits came with the coffee and I seemed to recall that they didn't. And then we got diverted onto how the word "biscuit" means something different either side of the Atlantic.

You know you've spent too much time round here when you can even remember the thread hijacks...!!! 8)

Cheers - C

Ceri, were you and Niki referring to 'disco biscuits'? 8)

I am the Tech for many. Take in work from several shops as side job.

 Haha - no! Don't know about Nick but I have no idea what that means. Now I'm curious. Is it rude? :D
