Thanks to all of our American friends. I have always considered myself a proud Canadian, but I have never felt more proud than I have for the last two weeks. :D
By all accounts the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver B.C. has been the best ever. Kudos to the Olympic organizing committee for a job very well done. I wish I could have been there.
Fourteen Gold medals!!!! Holy crap! 1976 in Montreal.....zero; 1988 in Calgary.....zero, now with fourteen we've won more than any other home country in history. I can't even begin to tell you how good that makes me feel!
This afternoon's hockey game was the best I've ever seen. We beat one of the strongest teams ever in Olympic history IMHO. I watched the US team get their medals, and to a man they looked crushed. No friggin' way!!! Someone had to lose and I'm damned glad it wasn't Canada but the US team has no reason to hang their heads. They played one hell of a game. The only thing they didn't have was Sidney Crosby. Sorry folks, but he's ours.

Thanks guys.

Canada sets a record for most gold medals by any country in a single winter Olympiad, with 14. Which means shattering the old record of 10 for a host nation.

the USA sets a record for most medals with 37 (I still think WE won the Olympics with all the gold!! )

Today's game was fantastic. the US squad showed a ton of heart, they never gave up.

CV you guys beat us in the round robin part of the tournament. What that got you was a bye in the first round of the playoff round, and to be home team throughout. (The team that is delegated as 'Home' gets last line change at face offs--which is huge strategically as you basically get to decide who to put on the ice after you see who the other team has out., so you control the player match ups)

There were so many emotional moments at this Olympiad. Starting with the tragic death of the luge competitor from Georgia.

Joannie Rochette skating to a bronze medal in her home country after the tragic passing of her mother at the games.

Also remember the passing of a shuttle bus driver who actually had a heart attack behind the wheel, a passenger (another off duty driver,) had to take control of the bus.

There were many personal triumphs and much drama. I am actually a little sad the games have ended.

i work in a giant sports bar, we were so busy, and it was so much fun, the next few weeks are going to be a huge let down.

Thank you sir. Our hockey rivalry with the USA is great, the level of play is always so high, and it's always a nail biter!!!

Though with all apologies to those who consider 1980's 'miracle on ice' to be the greatest hockey rivalry moment, the biggest thing ever has to have been the 1972 summit series with Canada and Russia. During games in russia the soviets arrested Canadian fans out of the stands, tried to arrest our coach and a lot of crazy shenanigans!

being the height of the cold war, the Canadian team was paranoid that the soviets were bugging their hotel rooms, to spy on game strategies. One night Phil Esposito and a couple others drunkenly started searching their room for bugs, and wrecked a bunch of stuff. they found a metal plate under a rug. so they got a screwdriver to tear it open and search for bugs
Esposito recalls, "We searched the room for microphones. In the center of the room, we found a funny-looking, round piece of metal imbedded in the floor, under the rug. We figured we had found the bug. We dug it out of the floor. And we heard a crash beneath us. We had released the anchor to the chandelier in the ceiling below."

iirc New York has the world Junior hockey championships next year. That is a great tourney too, the following year is out my way.

Another highlight i forgot to mention, a bunch of us at work were watching Shawn White (US snowboarder for those not in the know,) he was just head and shoulders above all the competition. '

You are right, such a great games, so much great sport, looking back was really only a couple weeks long? What a great event.

Congrats to our Canadian bretheren. I'm not a big hockey fan and only watch games very occasionally, but today's game was one of the most entertaining I have ever seen. Both squads played with tons of heart and it could have gone either way. It was only fitting to go to overtime. Hats off to Canada for a great 2010 games. 4th place in the 50K cross country race was really a great accomplishment as well.

Be careful what you wish for, you just may get it. If we had to lose, i'm glad it was in overtime by one goal, and not by 7-0 etc. Great series, Team U.S.A.

The thing with that is, you definitely want the best to play the best. it doesn't get any more exciting than sudden death overtime. team USA played a great Games. Ryan miller was the only choice for tourney MVP. Parise (from the US,)tying it up with under a half a minute left, you should have seen how quiet it got for almost a minute at my work. (we had around a thousand people for the game, and it went from chanting and singing to dead silence--quite astonishing really,) the overtime was off the hook. The noise was crushing when Crosby scored!

Way to go--great Olympics for Canada.
After not winning a gold in previously hosting both Summer & Winter Olympics, and the Men's hockey gold seals a record 14 gold in the Winter Olympics--that's the most overall, ever, wow.

Us Canadians have something to celebrate.

And the US made a game of it.

If someone wrote a book or made a movie about a game like this it would end the same way. Overtime with the Canadian hero scoring the winning goal! It's sort of funny, Sydney crosbey did very little in the tournament compared to the other players and before they game they talked about how it wasen't "his" tournament. Can't say that now!!!

Oh and to the U.S. Sorry bout the crappy closing cermonies... If you saw it the begging was funny, some cool effects and Neil young was amazing! But then he was fallowed up with Hedley, nickleback and simple plan. Canada-- WTF???

I wanted rush :)
