Yes, everyone knows that most rock stars & "big" musicains have deep pockets & are pretty well known & famous...but I know many of them really do it 4 the sake of music.
But some only wanna to be rock stars for the money & what not.
Not me...first of all I don't wanna be a rock star, to say "oh yah ima rock star!" Or for the fortune & fame...(all though it'd be kinda sweet! )
I do want to be a musician to spread a message, to show everyone in my small town that I CAN do it. I want to do good through music, & make an impact on the world & let people know what I feel.
Anyway (sorry to beat around the bush) what im trying to say is that I really want to get out there into the world & make something outta myself...

So what do you think, am I goofy, or do I sound reasonable??
How do you want your music to affect the world??? :D

Keep that attitude up. That's great! Music should not be about making money. I whole-heartly believe that music should be made for others. You could either make or teach music to others.

I would like my music to touch people; however, I play soley for myself and my wife now.

That makes sense to me,that's a great attitude to have. There are far too many poseurs out there with egos far greater than their talent and sadly a lot of these wankers make it big.But I'd rather be a starving serious musician than a rich plastic pseudo-musician who's the object of ridicule and derision from real virtuosos.

I have yet to meet someone who does not do there job for the money and the more the better. It's a business, they may like what they are doing but it's all about money don't kid your self. Eric Clapton's fame did not come about by just playing for the love of it, but the fact he was good at it and could make money doing it. Otherwise he be an old CPA playing in his basement.

You get good at your work when you enjoy it. You can make a living out of it when you're good enough (obvious exceptions aside). Keep doing it for the love of it, if it turns out you're good enough to make a living out of it - so much the better.

Get used to people criticising you - use the criticism to learn and to motivate yourself - don't let anyone tell you that you can't or shouldn't.

Fame holds no interest for me. In fact, I think it's a drag.
Fortune, on the other hand...that I could live with.

Some of us old farts (like me) are retired. Obviously, I'm not looking to become a rock star or looking for any fortune and fame. I play for ME! I love to play... even badly! 8)

In a not so distant interview... rock/folk legend Bob Dylan admitted he wrote to make money. The whole "poetry" thing was what the critics were saying about him so he went with the flow because that's where the money was. 8)

If you are inspired to make music for a living then you are truly blessed! Make the most of your gift and God bless and guide you in your efforts! :D

guitargirl93, please read my signature or what ever it's called at the lower part of my posts, it is true even if it's subconscious more than conscious the reason why we are all here at the Forum. When you play your songs it is what is happening one song at a time, if fame and fortune comes then wonderful, those things are extra, you playing is what is important. Play on Sister, when you do it helps the world and all of us.

guitargirl, that's EXACTLY how i feel about it. i want to play for the music, and to spread a message. i want tostart a band and play to change what music today has become: a load of crap. we need to bring back good, pure rock and roll. our generation should be the one to do it.

so what do you say? let's get out there and change the music industry! start a revolution!

What a person gets out of music, performing or teaching or whatever, is as individual as the person himself/herself.

If you just love playing for fun and can support yourself financially in other ways, great. If you love playing and can support yourself financially by playing, great. If you love playing, are hungry and homeless and are happy, I guess that's great too.

You just need to decide where the music will fall in your life and than schedule your life accordingly.

I'll never make real $$ playing. But having a dance floor full while I'm playing my bass, or crooning out a John Prine tune on the acoustic while around the campfire with friends, it's all good to me.

Rock on!
