In the late 60s and early 70s there some singers with incredible pipes, although some may think of some of their music as lightweight there's no denying their vocal abilities.I'm talking about guys like Gary Puckett of The Union Gap,David Gates of Bread,Mark Lindsay of Paul Revere and the Raiders.Puckett in particular had an operatic range and power in his voice.I was wondering if any of these guys are still with and still playing.Another great voice belonged to Shawn Phillipps whose Second Contribution Album is a folk/rock classic it also holds the distinction of having the longest song title in rock(I hope I'get it right here goes)She was waiting for her Mother at The Station in Torino and You Know I Love You Baby But It's Getting Too Heavy to Laugh.Anyway that's a few I can come up with does anyone know their status or whereabouts? Also can other Forum members come up with others as I'm sure I've missed several.

Hey guitslinger, it's funny you mentioned this. I just read in our local paper today that Gary Puckett is playing at a local casino. (amongst others from the sixties) http://www.mountairycasino.com/entertain.cfm
We have quite a few venues in this area that bring in the old has beens.
Another place is "Penns Peak" http://www.pennspeak.com/ They bring in all the has beens. But I must say, we frequent this place all the time. :P

I'm going to see the Moody Blues in a couple of weeks, and the Smothers Brothers on March 19.

The worst thing about living on an island in the North Atlantic is that you're so far off the beaten path that it doesn't pay for most big name acts to come here.Bob Dylan and Elton John played here last year but other big names would have to charge exorbitant prices to make it pay to come here.We did get Rick Springfield here last year too and it cost about $60 to see him at a 5000 seat stadium(the biggest concert venue in the province) you folks on the continental part of North America are blessed as far as concerts go.Oh yes Marty Stuart comes here mainly because he loves the place and plays at a 1000 seat school theatre, that's always a fabulous show.

i saw the guess who with burton cummings back in 01. randy bachman was with him, as were other members of the band from 40 years ago. not only did burt sound great, but the band was fantastic. the harmonies were still there, and they sounded as good as i remember they were when i saw them live back in the 70's

if you want to see something embarrasing, there is a dvd out there that i believe was called "the british invasion returns" it was also on pbs. it was difficult to watch- most of the singers were horrible, and many arrangements of the song were just bad.

once in a while you get lucky- let us know if you saw somebody recently that we should see when they get to our neck of the woods.

One of the best times I have had at a small concert venue lately has been when Peter Noone (the band is still called Herman's Hermits) has played at our old Paramount Theater. It has not been the best concert I have seen there... but certainly the most fun. Old Peter still has it! :D

My friends told me Eric Burden was quite forgettable.

For an old 800 seat theater they do a wonderful job of getting some decent entertainers for us to see. The Little River Band was just superb! The Gin Blossoms, Arlo Guthrie, Poco, Taylor Dayne, America, Derek Trucks, Robert Cray... and the list goes on. 8)
