yes because a man who wrote well over 200 songs in seven years and had one of the best and most unique singing voices is just soooo overrated.... tom morello rapes his guitar, drenches it in effects, and calls it a solo.... rage is good, but hes EXTREMELY overrated

We're talking guitar here buddy and unique styles, not songwriting or singing. Tom Morello doesn't use any effects, as far as I remember it states that in R.A.T.M.'s album sleeves

[EDIT: My friends here say that was true in one album only, I stand corrected].

His style is unique to say the least. Great guitar playing is expression in any way, shape or form.

I just find it amusing any Squirt Cocaine fan could call ANYONE overrated. JMO. Plus didn't Kurt use a lot of effects like too much chorus etc?

lets see where to begin.... lets start with the effects comment..... wah wah, tremolo PEDAL, fuzz, and theres probably a flanger in the mix there too..... and those are just the pedals my amateur ear can pick out! now for the cobain crack.... from what ive read in your posts, you seem to hate him because he killed himself.... if so, thats just foolish. he was severely depressed. he couldnt get help. if you were in that state would you continue on in extreme emotional pain, or would end the pain..... when people are in that state, they arent thinking right, him especially with the cocktail of drugs he used regularly.... and just because he had a massive hit does not make him overrated, the song was overrated yes, but cobain himself was not.... now no matter what 'facts' either of us puts forward regarding this, IT IS STRICTLY OPINION.... i said tom is overrated.... never did i say anybody has to think the same

I'd have to put Chet Atkins in here for obvious reasons, he is fantastic to watch.

I had edited my original post before you got to post recognising my mistake. My hands are held high. And I don't HATE Kurt Cobain. Hate is a very strong word. I don't respect him because he did that to a baby girl. Thats all. Your opinion is every bit as valid as mine so lets not get our knickers in a twist.

Big time bro. I've also said on recent posts that I respect Kurt as a songwriter. I was there when all that 5h1t went down bro. Nirvana are a big part of my childhood but I have a father issue thing and I just have no respect for him. 2 of my idols are Axl Rose and John Lennon and those 2 are a pair of a55holes too. Thats just the way of things.

To Morello though, I really have never been a fan of Audioslave but same as Nirvana, Rage were a big part of growing up for me and his guitar always excited me when I heard the things he could do. I was about 12 years old and just really getting into playing. The sounds he got out a Tele using a screwdriver blew my head off seriously.

Funny thing that. When I went to see him play I was surprised by how little he played seated and how much he played standing in front of the mic and holding the guitar normally. He only sat and played on his lap one time for "See The Light" during the whole show.

Funny story: Can't remember which song they were playing but every time it came round to this one part I heard something that was definitely not right. The 3rd time it happened, Jeff turned his head almost like he was a sighted man looking right at the overweight, bearded, plaid shirted, Grizzly Adams look-alike playing a Les Paul, and said, "Hey, that's a C-sharp there buddy," and turned his head forward again and went right back into singing the lyrics. Lots of people in the crowd caught it and started to laugh. The big fella was visibly embarrassed.

George Harrison's slide technique or even all his post Beatles guitar playing was pretty unique and readily identifiable. With his guest appearance on Cream's Goodbye album even though he isn't crediited on it you could that L'Angelo Mysterioso is George playing on Badge.

The "prepared" guitars used by Ranaldo and Moore (of Sonic Youth).

Hendrix played with his teeth and tongue sometimes.

Jerry Reed was as good as Chet and Knopfler and had a really laidback way of writting music. It was as if he made it up as he played.

Brad Paisley has a stand out sound in his music using a G bender on his guitars.

Monte Montgomery plays electric style rock including tapping and shred on an overdriven acoustic electric while double hand muting.

I was gonna say Tom Morello and you got there first. I don't know anyone else who plays like he does.

John Fogerty had quite a unique country/rock style and that unmistakable voice! 8) You can spot a CCR song the first couple seconds it starts! 8)
