(sorry for the lack of "correct writting" in the title.....Couldn't fit what I wanted to)

Seeing that now I can use a normal pick :P , I'm getting as into picks as I am into guitars. I mean, picks actually play a massive role.....My friend who plays guitar, thinks there just things you can use to play with and doesn't matter on how good the grip is and that. BUT, a crappy pick and a (say..) V pick, can mean a whole lot of diffrence in tone, sharpness, sound eg.

So........

I'm maybe not into picks as much as guitars, but I definately experiment as much with picks as anything else. It's amazing how much they effect the tone! The thickness, what they're made of, even the way you hold them. I don't really have a set favorite, I go to the guitar store and get a little bit of everything.

I only have about 5 picks and the Fender Medium is my favorite for right now. I plan on trying MANY others... might even scoot out and get some more today. They're about 40¢ each at the shop. I may go Donald Trump on the place and buy five of them! I'd better check and see if I have $2 in my wallet. 8)

Yeah, me too. The thin ones I just seem to break/bend. They're good if you're playing rhythm on an acoustic though.

I'm with you on this one. I used to love thin picks but then I started to break the little buggers all of the time, now I used mediums (Fender of course) They provide a good balance between strumming and picking.

Back when I played guitar more I cared about picks (picks and basses = illegal in my book), and I always used the heaviest picks I could find. There's a place in Texas that sells various metal picks - the one I have is brass with grooves cut into it for grip. As you play more and more, you might tend to realize that heavier picks impart more tone and, most importantly, recover more quickly to allow for cleaner fast picking.

Try a coin. It's solid and thick as you mentioned you like.
A lot of players use coins, Brian May for one, Billy Gibbons does (on occasion). Try everything, the only one who can tell you it's wrong is you.

If your parents don't mind suggestions... I have a Visa Debit card for online stuff that I only ever leave a few dollars on. If I need more then I deposit into the account, but most times there's nothing there for anyone to rip off if they get the details.

I am absolutely hooked on V-Picks!!! I have them all (OK, maybe not all, but most of them) and switch them around every now and then.

When I was younger I played with all the pics I could find. Fender, Dunlop, store brands...it didn't matter. As I got older, I fell in love with Dunlop Nylon pics. I use .88 primarily for that brand. Last year I heard about V-pics. I now alternate between the 2 brands.
