Well well what a weekend. The gig saturday reaffirmed my dislike of the Dunlop wah pedal. Way too thin and aggressive. So I set about ebay and found a very nice Jen Wah from 67/68 judging by the components. Got into a bidding war and finaly gave up at £245. Not very happy about losing out but I couldnt go much higher. I could have pushed the price up as them things go for around the £350 mark without the original case. Not really fair to boost the price past what your prepared to pay is it. So if you won that one, know you weren't battling someone who was just being spitefull. Also know you have my undying envy.

So anyway I go trawling the bay again and find what appears to be a mid 80's vox wah, with case. The seller agrees to sell it to me £35 cash on collection. He also has a Snarling Dogs FireBawl wah that he'll let go of for £35. So I go up and try then buy em both. The FireBawls great really nice sounding and has a volume boost too. The Vox is nice too but a bit soft sounding, really nice clean.

Anyway some fella with a Jen wah from the 70's just contacted me with a unbeatable offer, less than a new dunlop or vox wah. Now I've 4 wahs and only 2 feet. What shall I do? Can I adapt them to go in my armpits and play them against my chest like a accordion player?

You could plug one of them in the wrong way and reserve it for Gilmour seagull effects... umm. Would the missus be open to the idea of some nice heavy doorstops, perhaps?

I have 4 wahs also,A circa 70 Jen Crybaby(no it's not for sale lol)a late model Dunlop Crybaby- that doesn't deserve to be called that historic name-a 66 Vox Clyde McCoy and a 1st year Morley Power Wah.They do make great door stops and the Dunlop functions better as a doorstop than it does a wah.

If you're handy with a soldering iron I try this.
http://www.buildyourownclone.com/wah.html

I don't know if they ship internationally. I've build a few of these kits and their easy and first rate.

I don't get too hung up over wah pedals. It's not like I use it all the time and I never had anyone in the audience come up and say my wah sounds like garbage. It just a plain old Crybaby with true bypass.

I have the Dunlop Crybaby 535Q, and agree that my last Dunlop was a boat anchor (or a radio tuner), but this 535Q, at least you can "fine tune" it. I've found many applications for it now. Really enjoying it. I wouldn't mind an old jen, but at my budget it's a no-go.

Keep the 2 you like best. You can use 2 at same time. Sell the other 2 on local CL.

1. Get some plywood.
2. Cut it to fit over two wah pedals and another piece for the other two.
3. Attach the plywood to create two mega pedals.
4. Plug them all in.
5. Use one foot to control two of the wahs, and the other to control the two.

That's what I'd do if I had four wahs. You have to try it at least once before you sell any. :D

Hey that's actually a pretty good idea. Wonder if anyone ever tried that.

Hi Nik,me again,I just remembered an excellent source for wah upgrades for people in the UK fed up with Dunlop wahs. These folks make upgrade kits faithful to the specs of older Jen and Vox wahs the guy in charge is Stuart Castledine and his address is : stu@wah-wah.co.uk he should be able to find what you need to make a silk purse from a pig's ear.

SRV did something like that in the studio to control two wahs with one foot, but no one I know of has ever tried four wahs with two feet! :D

Right, like in "Say What". I use 2 wah sometimes, turn one one and set where I want it, like a filter and operate the other one. Even just that is tricky for me mere mortal.

If you scroll down in this link to Wah Wah and then History, it's kinda interesting and covers a lot of ground about wah pedals :

I think that is the most pantwettingly brilliant idea I've ever heard.

Whats more intresting is that I can begin to see a mechanism to fit to the contraption so when one wah is full back the other is full forwards. Using a cars camshaft. Trust me, I'm on it. If I can make it work well I may build a few, if so you must have one as a gift. Best of all you could rig as many wah's as you like to it. I suppose i'm limited to 12 for experimentation. I have no doubt you could fit 2 into a morley sized wah.
I used 3 whammy's once, two at my feet, one operated by the engineer. That was weird.

Guitslinger.
I havent forgotten about the pages you provided for me a few weeks back. Their safely bookmarked. I havent been intouch yet because I want a solid refrence point (old Jen) before I go splashing out for dunlop upgrades.

Atolleter

You can get similar results by using a wah and a eq pedal. Set the sliders on the eq one full up, next full down, and so on. That acts as your notch filter, then wah either before or behind. Try the eq sliders both ways round too.
Similar but not the same. Intresting non the less. Better if you add fuzz after everything, even better with octave fuzz.
