I own one 1985 MIJ standard (have been told it has a 57 neck on it) Stratocaster with a maple neck in Lake Placid Blue!! All original. I bought it myself from a local mom and pop in 1985. It plays as well as anything I own!! 8)

How can you tell the year of manufacture...I have a CIJ Tele which I love, but have no clue when it was made?

More than likely by the serial number.

Is there someplace that lists a translation of the number similar to Gibson's?

Fender Serial Numbers do not translate out a month/day/year/number made that day as other Companies Serial Numbers do.

If your Tele is a CIJ it is more than likely made between 1997-2005

I have a CIJ Tele Vintage 62, I know it's not 80's. But it's my go to guitar, a fabulous piece of craftsmanship.

I have a 1987 Squier, my first guitar, it's still in mint condition.

I also had a 1985 strat, it was the contemporary 22 model. I think that it was it was called. It had 22 frets, the Fender Logo, and the System I Trem. I bought it used and it was kind of beat up. I ended up traded it.
I would like the get another MIJ strat, about the same year and model but in better shape. Or a JV Strat or one of the Reissues.

Ya know Chet, If you made an offer ten years ago, I would've sold it to you! I bought that guitar new in 1988 because I was tired of playing right handed Strats "flipped". That was my first real "Lefty", and my main guitar until the late 90's when I bought two left handed Am. Standards. ( A Strat and a Tele).I put the "68' Reissue" in the case and didn't open it for almost 10 years. :? I've just recently pulled it out, re-strung it and started playing it. I use it quite a bit now. That guitar is totally stock, and it has better "Strat-Tone" than my Am. Std. :D So, I guess I'll keep it.
