Agreed with most of what you said but that point was worth repeating.

One advantage of locking tuners is they eliminate most problems with the string winding.

They're many folks who erroneously associate the locking tuners with tuning stability - even after a heavy tremolo abuse.

I'm not a big "tone chaser". I remember an interview with Nuno Bettencourt (from Extreme) where he said he had to make an effort to get more creative with the tone he dials in, because he tends to adapt his playing to what's coming out of the amp instead of the other way around. I suffer from that a little.

But I have switched to using graphite nuts to improve tuning stability, and I've been happy enough with the results that I've never wondered if LSR would work better.
