Just played a great gig, right in the back of beyond. Treated really well, fed and watered. Audience dancing away, very pretty ladies everywhere. Great time talking to folks afterwards. Made to feel really welcomed and relaxed, and invited back at a later date.
I've played far bigger stages and been paid far more money. I cant remember a gig I enjoyed playing as much though. Half the reason I packed up gigging before was that there was no fun in it.
Please share your experiences of great gigs you've played.

Sounds like you just played a wedding. Those are always the best gigs. They always love you. There's always lots of free food and drink. There's always a ton of pretty ladies dressed up in their finery. Everybody's dancing and having fun. There's no fist-fights. And when 1AM rolls around they pass around a hat and collect a few hundred dollars to ask you to keep playing.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I"ve mentioned this gig before but our 3 piece group was playing a waterfront dive frequented by rogue bikers and foreign seamen. One night we were playing and I hauled out my L/H Strat strung righty and got some stares from some Portugese sailors. It so happened that several of them were classically trained guitarists. In our last set we launched into our rendition of Jimi's Redhouse and Ihauled out all the stops and did my Jimi tricks but also played my most soulful solo ever. When we finished we got a spirited standing ovation from all these classically trained guys as well as everyone else,I felt 50 ft tall to be appreciated by these obviously gifted guitarists.

The last gig I played with my band in college. We played this one place called the Winners circle which had an asesome stage and lights/sound system. We had the best show and really had alot of fun. Maybe it was because everyone knew I was going in the Army and this would be our last show so we all played just that much better. I will never forget the crowd, the lights and the great sound!

Well for me it was not an actual gig but a rehearsal of a friends band that were playing CBGB the following week and I was in my mid 30s at the time and they were in there mid 20s and my friend who was the only person I knew asked me to come watch. They had just made a CD and I knew most of the songs because my friend gave me the demo months before. Well I got down and my friend was late so talking with the band members I told them I played, so they handed me a Strat and we started jamming and the singer was making up lines on the spot. When my friend arrived I wound up playing the whole rehearsal with them and split leads with my friend that I was totally improvising. Well when we finished they came and asked me if I wanted to join and to play the gig at CBGB with them. I said no but was really on a high, and they continued to ask even up to the night of the show when I showed up and even had there manager ask me. Now to be honest the one that made me feel funny was my friend because he never asked, and he was the only guitarist in the band and a damn good one, but I felt he did not like the idea. But I must admit I felt really good for a long time.

Ah man were booked up till summertime playing for Bike clubs and Angels chapters.
I usually avoid angels. Last time I played to angels was as a support act for Discharge. One of em pulled a knife on me, to which I said 'go on then fatty, like you could reach past your belly to stab me'. I ended up barracading myself in the dressingroom and climbing out the window to go hide in Discharge's tour bus.
