What did you start out playing on?
Even if you just started chime in as well. I have always thought it interesting to hear what celebrities and normal folks like myself started playing on.
Did you aquire it in an interesting way? (did it fall off a truck?....did you find it leaning on a sign next to the crossroads?....)

Me, I started out on a early 70's SG MIJ SG copy Crestline.
I was 12 (no money no job), I traded a bucket of tennis and baseballs, a hockey stick and a skateboard for it.

My Uncle's 60's Tele. It was destroyed at a party. I will never get over it as long as I live....

Hello BastardN,

Here's my first axe, got it when I was around 7.
Even at that young age I was fully aware this wasn't
a musical instrument. We had a lot of fun with it though,
3 years later I got a "Real" guitar.

Cheers.

My first, at age 6, was some little acoustic that I'm sure my folks bought to see if my interest would last. A couple of years later they got me a Vox Phantom for my birthday. I've still got it, it still looks and plays great, nearly 50 years later.

It was a 1996 Epiphone Les Paul which I later modded with a Gibson zebra 57 Classic at the Neck and a zebra 57 Classic Plus at the bridge...fabulous tone and sustain. I sold it around a year ago.

I started with an early '80s (late '70s, I can't tell) Fender Redondo 6 string acoustic. I bought it as a birthday present for myself and still have it. Not long after that I bought:

- An Ibanez strat copy. This was very cheap and the body cracked after a couple of years;
- A Maton CW80D/12 12 string acoustic that I love the sound of and still have;
- A Vantage (not vintage!) Les Paul copy with a beautiful cherry finish. It sounded great but I ended up giving it away to the son of a friend of mine (I kept my Sidekick Reverb 30 amp for some reason).

Recently I bought my first MIA Strat (American Standard, 3 tone sunburst) - I can't stop smiling :D

Mine was a purple $100 used Squier Affinity Strat. It's a 2000, I got it in 2003 when I was 11. I didn't really start playing it until I was 13 though.

It has a nice neck and it stays in tune pretty good, so I added Texas Specials to it and it's nearly as nice as a Fender. :)

I was given some el cheapo no name 1/2 size nylon string acoustic when I was 5. Had that till I was about 15 when I broke the neck after trying to fit steel strings. When I was 11 my parents bought me a really nice MIJ copy of a Gibson Hummingbird.

^Not mine, but same model. Gibson Epoch Les Paul, value pack cost $90 at Target. Of course I did not know that at the time and bought it used for $180 >_____> That is why I always called it the Epoch fail.

My 1st guitar was a hand me down from my uncle,it once had a cowboy motif painted on it but he sanded it off.This guitar had incredibly high action and strings like steel cables so consequently 2 yrs after when I got -my 1st decent guitar- a Harmony Archtone which I still have-It was a cinch to play.

ibanez Roadstar II

looks like this now:

except it had an accident before reassembly. Will be fixed up shortly, when I can string a couple days off together, and the weather gets a touch nicer.
