I was wondering, how does someone like Mettalica or ZZ Top, or Brad Paisley pick out thier next guitar or amp? Do they go off of someone's advise? Do the various gear companies give them a demo to try? Are they just given gear by the companies? Do they go to thier local Guitar Center or Manny's and try out a bunch of diferent stuff? I've heard stories of Pro Players visiting a Guitar Center, and one of our local smaller stores once had Dimebag Darrel visit there while giggin in town to look at stuff years ago. I'd just like to know how the big dogs do it.

I would think it's a little bit of everything. Some personal trial and error. Some free equipment like endorsement deals. Some factory demos. Some friends showing off new gear. Prolly just like how we do it but with a few extra possibilities.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking it is too. Plus I've seen more than one national touring band sneak across the street to the local pawn shop or mom and pop music store to look around. In fact, I once met most of the David Crowder Band in a music store here in Houston called Rockin' Robin. They were buying a bunch of amps.
