I've been googling all over and haven't found a darn thing about what Fender's serial number prefix will be for the new decade.

Has anybody seen a guitar with a 2010 serial number in the wild? Has Fender released info about it and I just missed it?

The reason I ask is that I'm going to be buying my soon-to-be-born son a Strat made in the year of his birth and I everything I find has a 2009 serial number on it.

Welcome to the forum and on the upcoming new baby. I just bought a new Hwy 1 Tele and it has an `09 serial number. Even my `08 Strat has a number from `07. You may have to wait until the necks stamped `10 come out which may be awhile. It seems like their always a year behind, probably due to the fact that they use all the necks that have been dated already.

I would think the next step in serial numbers would start with O (the letter) which would stand for the number One, followed by the number 0 (zero). Something like O0XXXXX.

I haven't seen any 2010 serials either. I agree with JPD that Fender would use necks already stamped. The 2010's should be Z10 if that follows suit. The new American Specials may have 2010 serials on them.

Z10 wouldn't work because Z1 was 2001.

I used to be the buyer for a shop and I usually saw some Fenders with the serial number appropriate for the year by February. I guess they made a lot of extra 2009 decals. LOL

At least I have until May to find one, if I do want to buy it before the baby's born.

Congrats on the baby. As I type, my pregnant wife is asleep half watching ice dancing olympics, ugh!

My recovering-from-knee-surgery wife is asleep half watching that too.

I think we should keep this bumped up in order to catch the attention of some guy who bought an actual 2010 Fender and can tell us his serial number ...

My not-so-sleeping but pregnant wife is sitting here watching Finland vs. Germany in Olympic men's hockey.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for.

I'm kinda surprised that Fender hasn't released any info about the serial prefix. I remember hearing that Z was going to start in 2000 before I had actually seen one.

Right, do we know yet?

Silly me, I was in 2 (two) music stores yesterday, both Fender dealers, and I didn't think to ask or look ... maybe a call to a Fender dealer or two would give us an answer ... Fender must be shipping guitars made in 2010 by now.

However, if they are still using the 2009 serial number decals on them, we won't know until those run out and they make the switch.

Maybe Fender will use A00xxxx for their 2010 necks. Who knows, they may come up with a completely new SN method. I have not seen any new guitars with a 2010 date yet.

Looks like it's time to hit the stores this weekend and see what's on the walls. Maybe I'll find one. 8)
