Does anyone in this forum own a guitar or amp that used to belong to someone famous? I don't mean some local or regional famous, but nationally or worldwide famous. The reason I ask is because on ebay, theres a couple of Fender amps for sale that used to belong to Johnny Cash. A Vibrolux, and a Twin Reverb that used to belong to Cash's guitarist, Bob Wootton. The Twin doesn't work, but they still want a couple grand for it, and the Vibrolux is fine, but they want a couple grand for that one too. Reasonable prices, I'm sure, but the latest bid on the Vibrolux was only up to $250 or so.

I wouldn't go near a so-called celebrity owned piece of gear unless I had absolutely undisputable proof that a celebrity owned it.There are hundreds of guitars supposedly owned/burnt/destroyed by Jimi Hendrix.I have a Strat and a Tele autographed by Marty Stuart and The Fabulous Superlatives, that's the closest I have to celebrity owned.

Agreed, I wouldn't touch any of that "official" stuff on Ebay.

I seem to remember a poster who got his hands on some Aerosmith amp, it belonged to Joe Perry. It seemed legit, and the dude said it was a fantastic piece of kit. I got a pick at a Counting Crows gig, does that count?

My bro has a tissue signed by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo.

One of his friend's dad is a promoter and managed to get him the autograph, and one of Rob's picks that was left on stage after the gig.

You're right Snowy but I think it was Brad Whitford they belonged to. Pro Sonic's or Showmasters I think?!?!

No but it seems people think a signature is worth a lot. When I was at the Philly show this dealer had an early Clapton Strat for $1,899 right next to it he had the same guitar signed by Clapton for 10K. Also a Blue Standard Strat signed by both Beck and SRV for 15K.

I dont reckon they should be worth that much.... I mean, sure they've been signed by a famus person, so they should raise the price by $700 hundred or something, but thats just ridiculous.

If you read some ads in Vintage Guitar Mag. you'll routinely see guitars with "celebrity owned"in their specs at very inflated prices,I wonder if the celeb gets a cut...I think not.BTW at a Steve Earle concert on the Copperhead Road Tour my buddy asked a roadie for the towel Steve used to wipe his face during the concert and the roadie tossed it to him,he still has it as far as I know.

I have an early SF DR that was used by some bluesman to record in Criteria studio in Miami...forgot his name so now I can't hear it on a cd.
For awhile I could play a friend's Martin D28 that had been played by everyone from Waylon Jennings to Dickey Betts,Gregg Allman to Willie Nelson, and lots others.
I didn't own it but it was and is a cool guitar with lots of history....just to hold it was cool,it has that vibe.
The guy who owns it was in Waylon's band and wrote with Dickey and many others,so it had been around.
Billy Ray Reynolds is his name....an original music outlaw, and all around great guy...

I'd be very wary of buying anything alleged to be owned by a Celebrity. Without incontorvertible proof there is a good chance you'd be getting taken.

Technically it was owned by Paul Stanley of Kiss

Image

Caught it while I was second row in Buffalo on June 24,2000. Two days before my birthday. Also caught an Ace Frehley pic played by Gene and a rose thrown out by Peter Criss during Beth.

For a life long Kiss fan I was in heaven!!!
