Best thing that could happen to a person. Cuts down on the playing time but worth it. Have one of each - the oldest started playing a few years ago and the 6 year old started showing interest last year. I'm stopping at 2 though. Coming up on 50 and single so 2 is plenty. Don't know how some of you with more can find time to play! When I do get a chance to sit down and play my son picks up his guitar and my daughter grabs "The Communal Acoustic" so instead of playing what I want to work on I end up trying to work on something with them. Is still fun and it seems like when I try to teach them I recognize bad habits that I picked up through the years and never noticed before. Had a proud moment last night - a friend had given me some music for a song I wanted to learn. Just lyrics with chords written above the words. Played it through 4 or 5 times and it just wasn't right. Was pretty much talking to myself and said "not sure what that chord is, but it sure isn't Em". My 11 year old looked away from the TV and said it was a G. Played it throuigh swapping the Ems for Gs and sure enough - he nailed it the first time. Would have been a process of elimination for me. He had heard the song on CD but had never played it or seen the music before. Alot of good music genes in the pool that skipped me. Been playing for over 35 years but don't think it will be long before he passes me up. That will be another proud moment.

So good luck and hopefully in a few years you'll be looking for a bright pink Hello Kitty with Texas Specials like I am!

And FenderFanatic1 - know what you mean about daycare. I didn't llike the idea of sending them off either. Always thought that kids should be able to stay home till old enough to go to school but when you have to go to work... In the end I think it might have actually been better. They got to play with kids their age and learn social skills that they wouldn't have at home. Adjusted easy to school as they got older too. And picking them up after work was a good way to make up for a bad day.

Yeah, we're probably going to have to do daycare too. I didn't like the idea either, but stagemasterplayer, I think you've got some good advice here, and I'm taking it!

I'm very blessed to have 4 daughters and have my wife stay at home with the younglings. Unfortunately i have to commute from PA to NYC everyday to afford it but its worth it to us. I'm hoping they get so interested that a family rock band forms for the fun of it and we can bust out the old recording gear and set up a studio in the basement.

I do the same thing where i fret the chords and let the kids strum hoping that they'll strike an interest. The 4 year old wants to get a piano so that's encouraging.

Congrats you will definitely enjoy,

I have two boys and being the dad is the best thing in the world. Make sure you keep music interest when they get older. Children gain huge benefits from music education.

Make sure you stay on track with your music there are too many musically talented folks who dropped the music from their lives. Just keep at it, talk to your missus and schedule practice/rehearsal times just as you would any other important appointment.

Thanks danielhelc, I plan on it! After finally getting my Fender Strat, I am a lifer now! My parents pushed me into violin when I was 11, and that led me to guitar about 6 years later.

Hey senderkik.... that is some great news!! My wife and I are expecting our first as well :D
And it's a small Fend Forum world because she is about 15 weeks as well! It's a race to the finish :D

Hopefully we both have healthy pregnancies in our families

Do you know the projected due date? We are due August 10, but obviously that may change

I can't wait. I was thinking that I want to buy a new guitar to celebrate the occasion. Really I was thinking how great it would be to have a guitar from the year I was born (1980) that I thought I am going to get a Fender made in 2010, play it for a while then give it to my son/daughter if they want to play. Thinking about the new American Special since this is the first year of it.

Anyway, looks like we will be going through this together at almost identical times

That's a great idea. My stable may need to be thinned, but I like your idea.

No problem! The right daycare isn't so bad. Was a big adjustment after their mom split and wasn't home to watch them while I worked - alot of crying at drop off time. After awhile they got to like it and made friends there. Sometimes they would be so busy having fun that they weren't ready for me to leave when I went to pick them up.

congrats! it seems like yesterday i was holding the kids in my hands. now they are grown, and my daughter and her hubby are expecting their first child in may.

they best part is that i have a squire strat ready for him. since my kids didn't want to play, he'll some day get all my goodies.

hope he appreciates it.
