I bought a cheap Strat knock off for $100 on Ebay. The action was horrible and the frets were not filed down enough at the ends so my hand was getting like chopped meat. I sold it one month later for the price I paid. I strongly advise people to stay away from the knock offs, you don`t know what your buying until it`s too late. The tuners were bad also and wouldn`t hold the guitar in tune.

I just bought a Custom Shop from ebay and it was a great transaction. The only way I could justify buying it from ebay was to play it in the store first and then check ebay to see if I could find a deal. I got lucky and saved hundreds. I would consider doing it again in the future....BUT....

There are lots of scams out there. Shortly after I won the bid I received an email from another Ebay user stating that he was the seller of the guitar I just won and I should contact him to arrange payment by other means instead of PayPal, he said that his PayPal was "down". I found this odd since I had already spoke with the seller and paid for the item. The guy was trying to scam me for some money.

Its buyer beward out there. Becareful and look for good dealers.

Perhaps if its not against any rules we should start a sticky thread that details what we bought and who we bought from so we can have an idea of who is for real out there. As I am sure a lot of people have not had good dealings on Ebay...just a thought.

i've never bought a guitar from ebay, and after some ebay experences with amps I don't know if I will or not..... First, you can't feel the guitar, and see if you like it. Not every guitar will be exactly the same, and so I think that that would be a dissadvantage with ebay. On the other hand, you could get a great deal, for a great price...but you're rolling the dice there...

I never like buying any instruments without trying it out first. I'm fine with buying a used guitar, but I need to play it first to see how it feels.

Like they all said, do a little research. Ask any questions you have and you'll probably do ok.

I bought both my Squier Strat and Fender Montara off of Ebay, no problems with either transaction.

I have taken the Ebay plunge twice so far and have had very good luck both times.
I bought a 2004 50th Anniversary American Deluxe last year and then I recently bought a brand new Robot Guitar.
In both cases I made sure I was dealing with reputable sellers who had 100% positive feedback and they had also sold expensive guitars before.
This is important because those are the sellers who take extra precautions when packing and shipping.
