Well I guess the American Deluxe will be gone sooner than anyone thought. Just like with the VG Guitar Center has both Strat and Tele versions on sale for $1,100 as it looks like they are unloading what they have in stock like they did with the VG. I would recomend anyone that ever thought of getting one to grab it even if you have to jam yourself up a bit as they are top shelf models.

I have both and after I bought a Tele last year a month later I grabbed an Ash Strat. Both being the first Fenders I bought in the last 8 years but the craftsmanship and sound were off the hook. I would say grab the Tele over the Strat as with the belly contour, S1 switching and Cherry Burst finish if you are only going to own one Tele this would be it.

I still cant understand why they are doing away with this model as it is a great ax. Besides I wonder what they are going to replace it with.

They're dropping the American Deluxes?
Where are you hearing this?

Has there been an official announcement from Fender about that?

Ah well, I have my American Deluxe bases covered, too. Bought a Tobacco Sunburst Ash Strat last summer and a Cherry Burst Tele during the holidays. They were both nicely discounted and I couldn't resist. They're both outstanding guitars.

I have seen MF has dropped the price and here in Toronto Steve's Music has them for $1399 non v-neck versions. Maybe they are just getting rid of old stock. February is inventory time month for many retailers.

The Cannuck Loonie has been doing fairly well against the American Greenback the past few months. Perhaps it just takes a while for the prices to level out.

You had me worried for a second there.

I still think that was a mistake on Musician's Friend's Web site and/or a phone sales person who didn't know what they were talking about.

I picked up a 2010 Fender Frontline catalog when I was at Guitar Center last week and all the American Deluxe models are still in it. The discounts are very nice, though. $1,199 as a starting point definitely worked for me.

I bought my Am Deluxe in 1998 and never got on with it. It was the 1st guitar I had bought in over 20 years so it was quite an experience as I knew jack about what a *good* guitar sounded like but the sales guy was good! I never got on with the two point trem, the saddles, the noiseless Pups, the pathetic wafer thin trem block or the anorexically thin neck. Gave it to my son about 2 years ago. I'd go for a new or 2nd hand CS next time i'm in the market. Maybe Fender have improved the Am D since then or maybe it's just me? Anyway, my MIJ strat knocks that guitar into a cocked hat.

Nice Tobacco strat- That is my fav sunburst colour. You live in Arizona, the landscape in the background of some of your photos has me curious... do you live in a dessert of some sort?
