What a great job I have! As we are about to re-deploy, I thought I would make one final post from Iraq...and it's a good one!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sunburn In Iraq!
Well, not literally, but yes literally (see links below). Congratulations are due to the I Corps Rock Band "Sunburn", led by SGT Jason Lane. Our two groups Tuff Boxx and Sunburn continue to make the headlines here in Iraq, (Victory Times, AFN, DVIDS etc.), but more recently around the world with a major news piece about Sunburn containing photos and videos written and published by The Tacoma News Tribune, that has swept major news sites and the blogosphere.
here are a couple of links
Article

Vid

The British Band Muse has also blogged it up on their official web.
http://board.muse.mu/showthread.php?p=7367368

Other affiliates that have picked up the press release are USA Today, Army Times, and most major Washington News webs.
The article is favorably written and includes comments by Sunburn Frontman/Guitarist/Vocalist SPC Mike Nelson, Tuff Boxx Saxophonist SGT Owen Unger, Sunburn Drummer SGT Dave Champagne, and Band SGM Frank Suri. The Video includes interviews of Sunburn Team Leader/Bassist SGT Jason Lane and Lead Vocalist SGT Jen Champagne.

Thanks for taking things to the "next level"!

MSG Rob Comer
Detachment Leader
Tuff Boxx & Sunburn

Also worthy of note is the latest DVIDShub.net video package from AFN of the farewell concert event "Poundin' Sand" (sim. "go away", "beat feet" etc.) found here:
http://www.dvidshub.net/?script=video/v ... p&id=79225

This video contains footage and interviews of three groups from two bands...I Corps Own Tuff Boxx & The Baghdad Horns, and Sunburn, and 1 AD's The Dirty HESCOS
Interviews by Sunburn's Mike Nelson, Tuff Boxx MPT Leader/Keyboardist SFC Glen Coberly, and 1 AD's SGT Sammy Lewis, and random AF guy who apprantly enjoyed the show.

Hey, I like your band! If I had a band over there, I would consider naming it Sgt. Yank.

Also, glad you are headed home, pal.

I just want to say thank you for serving our country and the sacrifices you have made to protect our freedom at home and abroad. I am going to check out the links you posted later, but first and foremost a thank you is due. Thank you.

Thank you for serving :!:

I was accepted as Army musician MOS-42R.

Of my choice, I didn't go to BCT, so it was canned...long story.
From the look of things and from other military musicians from the Special Bands (Pershing's...etc...) I have worked with on civilian gigs, it makes me think what it could have been like. :?

To my fellow Soldiers/Guitar players here on the forums and all veterans I thank you for your service and sacrifice, and for the opportunity to serve you by rockin' my government issued stratocaster.
From big 'ol VBC to all of the small JSS's and FOB's that we convoyed to by MRAP, Stryker veh, Hummer, rotary and fixed wing that no "big name folks" could go it has been a journey worthy of drink and song. So, maybe I'll take that drink at the home of the Infantry ABStrat, and I WILL tip my drink and glass to you.
To the poster who dropped before shipping, don't be dismayed, this job is not for everybody, as Jack Black once said, "...Rockin' ain't no walk in the park...". That being said, if you are still eligible, and left becuase you could not get some important questions answered to your satisfaction, I would be happy to drop some knowledge, as I have been doing this a long time, and have a lot of experience and know a lot of people in a lot of high places.
