Hmm. If you are getting static when touching metal parts you may have a grounding problem. The only Static I get is from the pickguard when I brush my fingers over it while strumming. Funnily enough only on my Tele, not my Strat.

Wiggle your instrument cable. If there are pops then you need to check the connections on your input jack and make sure it is putting enough pressure on your cable jack. Also check the jack is tight. They back off sometimes.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Are you standing on carpet?I used to get that when I played on a little crate in the living room on carpet barefoot, plus I would get a static shock sometimes.

The dryer sheet probably has tallow on it which is fatty/waxy. What do you use to clean it off the instrument after you play?
