The James Bond Theme thread from eccentric0 and VT BlackStrat's comment about who he considers the "real" Bond (as well as the recent suggestion that Ceri might actually be 007 ) require me to ask:

Who's the best James Bond?

Here are the actors and the movies in which they first appeared as 007:

Sean Connery: Dr. No
David Niven: Casino Royale (1967)
George Lazenby: On Her Majesty's Secret Service
Roger Moore: Live and Let Die
Timothy Dalton: The Living Daylights
Pierce Brosnan: GoldenEye
Daniel Craig: Casino Royale (2006)

Who is your favorite--and why? 8)

I guess I'm showing my age but I picked Sean Connery!!

I think Ceri was Ian Fleming's inspiration!!

Im now on my 5th Bond book and I think the closest any of the actors has come to bond is either connery, craig or timothy dalton. All 3 seem to capture bond better than the rest in the way they are in the role as bond. In my opinion anyway. 8)

As I look at the list in chronological order, it's interesting to see the pendulum swing between tough guys and pretty boys:

Sean Connery: tough guy
David Niven: pretty boy
George Lazenby: tough guy
Roger Moore: pretty boy
Timothy Dalton: tough guy (and my personal favorite)
Pierce Brosnan: pretty boy
Daniel Craig: tough guy

Weird, huh?

You forgot the radio Bond's: Bob Holness (Moonraker) and Barry Nelson (Casino Royal).

As a Scotsman I'd go Connery but I loved Lazenby and Dalton too.

Believe it or not, CC, I actually did consider including the Bonds from other media, but I decided in the end to stick with just the movies. I wonder whether anyone will question my including David Niven, whose film appearance is not usually considered part of the "official" Bond liturgy. 8)

 Cool, better sticking to movies. Holness will always be the presenter of the gameshow Blockbuster's here in the U.K. for me anyway.

I wonder if people will go for their countrymen like me too:

Sean Connery - Scottish
Roger Moore - English
George Lazenby - Australian
Timothy Dalton - Welsh
David Niven - English
Daniel Craig - English
Pierce Brosnan - Irish

Sean Connery is the best Bond in my book.
Daniel Craig could form up into a good successor though. I like an arsekicker secret agent.

Oo - good thread!

To my complete surprise I liked Daniel Craig best - I thought his first Bond outing was the best film of the lot. (Followed by one of the worst...)

"Vodka martini."
"Shaken or stirred?"
"Do I look like I give a damn?"

We also need the companion thread to this one: best Bond girls. Most of my life my fave has been Diana Rigg (On Her Majesty's Secret Service). But again to my surprise Eva Green (Casino Royale) has completely replaced her in my affections. I LOVE the spikey-flirty sparring on the train - that gets my juices going!

Now. Where's the gin?

Cheers - C

PS Shouldn't Woody Allen be somewhere on that list too? Sort of...
