One of my favorite issues. Fender needs to follow PRS's lead. Might as well have G&G build the case for you and trash the logo. Who wants the public knowing what you're carrying around anyway. :?

This thread is right up my alley. Things like this bug me so much. I can't stand being nickled and dimed to death when buying something. I bought a blu ray player this Christmas and it didn't come with cables. Are you kidding me? I was so pleased when I got my AM Standard a couple of months back. I opened it up and it had a strap, a cable and cloth with it along with the sticker and the little tools and stuff. Little things like that show me that a company cares. I personally baby all of my stuff so when people sell things that are missing stuff it bugs me. Sure buying something without a case can save you money but personally I want that and everything else that originally came with it. For me any shop who sells you a guitar and holds stuff back is not somewhere that I want to deal with. I made the guy go back and find the exact case for my guitar because he originally came back with a case that was tagged black and the SSS configuration, mine is silver with HSS. It took him about 10 minutes to find it but really as anal as that was I want what is mine.

My 2008 Fender Stratocaster came with a gig bag, yet my Fender Jazz bass (same year), didn't even come with a gig bag. Both the guitar and the bass were the same price, too. The padded Fender gig bag is rather nice, though. :P

Hmm I have mixed feelings about this. I agree that any quality instrument guitar or otherwise should come with a hardshell case to protect it when transporting from place to place. On the other hand I have several Strats and other guitars with the original hardshell cases and the cases just sit in the closets because its so much more convenient for me to put the instrument in a gig bag when I go out to play locally. I throw the gig bag on the shoulders which leaves my hands free for amp, pedal board etc.

However on long trips guitars go in hardshell cases, amps go in flight cases, and everything gets locked up. Just wish I was good enough to afford a 24 hour guard to watch over the stuff.

I hate rolling over in the middle of the night in a strange motel room and putting my arm around a cold plastic hardshell guitar case....

That's why you're supposed to grab a "bang tramp" and take her back to the room. She keeps the bed nice and warm and there's someone there to get you a fresh pack of smokes and a cup of coffee in the morning. Just costs you cab fare (if you're in a good mood). 8)

I asked about a case when I bought my MIM. About $90 extra. So I asked about a gig bag and tell the guy "I'm wearing a Timex not a Rolex... be easy!"... guy says "I have a used Ibanez you can have cheap"... "I'll take it!"

So, I carry my Strat around in an Ibanez gig bag. 8)

I'd be willing to bet some guy is going to buy a used Ibanez and is going to have to buy a new gig bag!

What gets me is that the case that comes with the American Standard is the best case that comes with any fender guitar. It's far better than this tweed thing. I'd prefer the option of not paying for the case and sourcing my own.

That is expected when buying a used guitar from Music Go Round. Who ever sold it or traded it to them most likely kept the hard shell and took is a soft case with it. Seems we all have them lying around. I have two under the bed with gun cases and bags.

My 2004 Delux anniversary Strat came with a nice, strong, guitar shaped case. I was just glad it wasnt one of those giant black rectangle cases
they used to make.

Still, I dont blame you for protesting. I mean, just how skinny is the profit?

MY SKB hardshell is lightweight, durable and the guitar shape takes up less space and is less cumbersome to carry.

My G&G / Fender tweed case is bigger than it needs to be and takes up more space in the car, and the latches smack my thumbs every time I open it up.

I'll be in Bristol VA/TN in about a month. If you live any where near Boone, I'll meet you in Shady Valley and give you a fair price for the tweed case if it's in good shape. 8)

Yes the Tweed Case's are just a nostalgia thing not better in any way.

Well I posted the same rant about 6 months ago and I am glad to see a lot less guys so happy to get a gig bag for what ever reason. It is a joke that guitars that cost over a grand like the Blackmore Strat $1,200 or Billy Corgan Strat $1,350 come with a gig bag. How cheap do you want to be. Anything that is MIM comes with a gig bag meanwhile cheaper US models have a case. The signal this sends to me is these guitars are inferior and do not desrve a case, which is far from the truth but that is the vibe I get.

Last time so many guys were sticking up for Fender I was dumbfounded, not so much this go around. Hey I have a lot of guitars and 2 gig bags I bought to take something out on the fly but if I buy a guitar I expect a case as a gig bag by no means is any kind of protection even in a car a neck can break like it was in nothing at all. A lot of companies that sell guitars in the $500 offer a case so there is no reason why Fender should not as they also own Jackson,Charvel,Squir, Hamer, Guild and Gretsch. When you realize they are buying them by the tens of thousands what could it cost them $10 the most if that. Charvels back in the day used to come with the chainsaw case and now that Fender bought them they made some great models that sound and look great for $1,100 but they come with a gig bag. This burns my $@! more than anything as it is nothing but cutting corners and being cheap.

Well maybe a few months from now when someone else post this again maybe we will get more outrage and disgust and maybe someone will get the message. Not asking for a tweed case with every model just something to protect what you paid for.

How about this. I bought my Floyd Rose and it came with a standard gig bag- no problem. I bought a new SKB for it and Im happy :)

I get the thing home- and I open it up and put it on my stand, make a sandwich, while eating it Im staring at the thing. Then I go to play it and I notice it's out of tune. 'Never mind' I thought- 'Ill just tune it' I said to myself. So I go into the case, was there an allen key to unlock the nut? no. I got an un-opened bag full of fender tags and goodies, I got an allen key but was totally the wrong size- it was the one to take the nut off completely. But the most important allen key of all, it did not come with. Uh!

So I played it and pretended it was in tune. I had to buy one from the hardware shop myself.

Seriously though- Fender really should include ALL of the keys.
