Hello,

Wondered if anyone has had a guitar drop from about 4 feet on to a wooden floor more than likely hitting the bottom strap knob or there abouts? I have a guitar that is not able to play and any other note except the "Open" note. There is NO change in sound when pressed against any other fret on the keyboard???? Its the "E" String (first/top).

I wondered if when it dropped on the floor it could have done something to a pickup? however all other 5 strings work fine and sound fine???? Does this make any sense, could it be a lockdown or Floyd Tremelo problem?

Any help greatly appreciated..
Thanks, in advance

What you're saying is, your guitar fell about 4 feet. 5 strings work and play fine through the pickups, open and fretted notes. But the E string only can be heard when its open, and when you fret a note on the E string, there is no sound?

Make sure the E string did not get stuck under part of the neck pickup cover...thats about the only thing I can think of...you'd be able to hit a sort of open note, but fretting probably wouldn't make a sound....

It took someone proficient in trying to understand this better than I could explain, but basically you are close in understanding the issue.

If I just stroke the open "E" sting, it will sound normal, now press the string against ANY OTHER FRET, and its the same exact note or sound?? this is driving me crazy... It does not seem true, but is exactly what it does. You can play the top or bottom fret (highest to lowest) fret and it still sounds the same? The string is NOT resting on any anything and appears exactly like the others, the tone sounds flat unlike the others and has no clearly defined sound like a normal string?

Appreciate the reply, thanks, looks like its off to the shop; :D

Im sorry, but that sounds impossible.

Even if the string doesnt come in contact with any other frets, despite pressing down on the string, the fact that youre touching the string would change the sound.

I was sort of under the impression as well....

If your guitar is really doing what you say its doing, its sounds like there have been issues since before the fall, and you just need to get someone to personally take a look at it....

Thanks for the replies...

Well, I am going to check your recommendations tonight, I guess I am not clearly describing this completely accurately, last night I was able to hear the slight change in the string note by pressing VERY HARD on a fret without the amp on, it does change the note, but VERY hard to hear, but not with the amp on, so its electronics I am tending to believe. it is exactly resting like the other strings, but had NO tone, and flat sounding, nothing like a normal string if you get within a few frets of each other, its almost impossible to note any change in the note. I am not very accomplished with anything on this guitar, and can not locate any Fender manual or information on this guitar. It appears to be obviously discontinued. Does anyone know if this was somewhat noted as a Custom setup? I have 2 (double) Duncan humbuckers (top/bottom) for a total of 4 pickups. The Showmasters I see online seem to have 2 bottom pickups and a single at the top?

I feel pretty stupid for not being able to hear the string note change, but is very hard to hear, and again can not be heard while the amp is on. I need to play with the locks, and tremelo to see if the sound changes at all, as well as test the pickups as BigJay recommends.

Thanks again,

PS: anyone familiar with this guitar, I would enjoy knowing what you think about it, its inexpensive but I recall it getting some good reviews when it came out, but its not in abundance with the setup I have (double humbuckers)?

Check that the bridge plate did not come out of it's mating area on the bridge posts and is now sitting below that mating area.

Have you tried putting on a new string there? I'd take a peak at the bridge also. Possibly the height adjustment got knocked out of whack.

Thanks for all the replies...

As you can tell by now, I am not very familiar with this guitar, especially the Floyd Locking Tremolo <--- Did I say that I have NO CLUE on this; lol

I have several guitars but not this rig or setup. Well the mystery has been uncovered, I just dove in and took it apart, I guess its the best way to learn these things, as I mentioned there is NO manual and I found some online info on the Floyd Tremolo, so I took the back plate off and all there is is 3 coiled springs and 2 adjustment screws. I let the screws (OUT), which I believe lifted the bridge and strings up and away from the keyboard a noticeable bit, however, not sure if this good or bad>? or correct? I found a great article online which explains the entire Floyd system; good reference here for any other novice looking for help: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Floyd_Rose

I then proceeded to turn the wrong end screw on the bridge and boing, the string flew out of the keeper, I now know how to change the strings; lol, I see you need to cut the ball off to install the strings on this, now I understand, and why I took it in to have a broken string replaced for 25 bucks. I could not figure out how it went in with the ball on the string; lol.

Plus it played perfect before I brought it to the guitar shop, and I never did check the string before it took the drop on the floor out of my wall hanger fork. I was able to get the string back in after 2 hours, and finally adjust the another screw that adjusts each string individually, and let this out a bit (down)? All I know is whatever I did lets the string now play a note on any fret. That was weird, since I still am not sure what I did to correct it, but it works; lol... Mystery solved, thanks a ton of the advice and replies all...

So, as I was also saying - I wondered if anyone else was familiar with this guitar, usually eBay would have a pretty good inventory on sale for Squire guitars, or CL, but found none. By the way (BigJay) there are a total of 4 Duncan pickups (2) doubles next to each other. I have a picture but not sure how to attach one here? ALT P? does not work? anyone know how to add a picture to the post?

Thanks again for those who tried to help, greatly appreciated [/img]
