I have a few guitars with "F" holes and I love them,I think if anything they make a guitar look classy and dignified.I have 2 Casinos,a Harmony Archtone, and a Gretsch Tennessean, granted on the Getsch they're painted on but if that was good enough for George Harrison it's good enough for me.

Pointy guitars for sure. Just a useless waste of wood aesthetically for me.

I may not know much about guitars, but I aesthetics, things I don't like are...

1. pointy guitars

2. heavy guitars (have a back problem so this makes sense to me)

3. being a gal, not having a lot of choices for comfort (and no, no Daisy rock wussy guitars for me...make a funky grown up one, maybe, but nooooo)

4. Anything pink. (just a preference. not a pink person)

5. Stickers pushing an agenda. Just play. (my opinion anyway)

6. Too expensive guitars (I mean, I'd be afraid to play them)

I'll be honest though. I do like the F holes in the guitar. Do the holes affect the sound? Looks wise, I like it. I've always been interested in the look of a cello so this kind of combines my secret desire to be able to play a cello and what I like to play, the guitar.

F holes allow an electric hollowbody to be played acoustically though not as loud as a full bodied acoustic loud enough to be heard fairly well. The F holes also allow the top to vibrate better than a non F hole hollow body giving it a nicer tone.BTW John Lennon would use his Casino acoustically to do a lot of song writing.

OK, I used to like F-holes until the John Lennon thing. Now I've got to add them to my ugly list, too. JK. If I saw a picture of John Lennon with a Strat I wouldn't stop playing them.

No big mystery here. The deal breaker would be an instrument that was obviously NOT cared for or irreverently "cobbed up". If it had a few minor dings and bumps from normal use I could live with it as long as it sounded and played well. Otherwise... pfft! Keep it.

Now don't stop

No overly Pointy Guitars (Explorers and Flying Vs are alright), no heavily artificially relic'd guitars (I can tolerate light relicing if it's an amazing guitar and It's alright by me if it is used and has a worn look)

That was just cruel. I'm glad my devotion to the world's greatest guitar is stronger than my aversion to the world's greatest boy band.
