Here's another thing, and it doesn't have to do with guitar aesthetics so bear with me. :D I absolutely HATE when guys that can barely play an open E chord, much less play an actual song, go out and buy a $3000 guitar. I met a guy off Craigslist who wanted to jam. He said he was learning, which is great, but then he pulled out a Gibson LP Standard and could barely play the darn thing! Beautiful guitar, but you know how you can tell if someone doesn't really know much about playing by the way they hold the pick? That's what was happening here. Don't know about you guys, but it just irks me.

I don't care for...

...racing stripes,

...green guitars, except for surf green,

...big ol' honkin Bigsby trems,

...trems and switches on Jazzmasters and Jaguars,

...black guitars with white pickguards,

...guitars with more than one neck.

Yeah, I know I'm way outnumbered on that one, sorry. Just not my cup o' tea.

How about this... Willie Nelson's guitar.

That's what happens when you play Whiskey River 80 million times!

At least it's not a store-bought relic,

Some of you might hate me for saying this, but I can't stand the Road Worn series Strats or Teles. I'm sure they play and sound great, but why buy something that's been made to look beat up already? It's like you didn't earn it, you know? blah

I really wish they would put out a guitar with a set of features like the Road Worns, you know, big frets, thicker necks, Kluson-style keys, better pickups, etc. without beating the hell out of the paint job and rusting them.

Huh? Theres lots of them.... American Vintage or American Vintage Hotrod series telecaster and stratocasters....

I do like the American Vintage Hot Rods, but I was thinking about something below the $1500-plus that those guitars sell for. Basically, a 50's or 60's series with a flatter board and bigger frets is what I had in mind. Sort of a MIM version of the AVHR guitars.

With a vintage-style (six-screw) bridge, sure thing. Point conceded, Nev :)

I know what you mean, dude. And to make it worse, it's really hard to buy a Strat and not mod it in some way. I know it's kind of off-thread, but I won't buy an American Std. just because I come out a cheaper, with a guitar that works better for me, by starting with a MIM, changing the pups, and having Warmoth build me a fat neck for it that I'll top off with locking Schallers.

1:Them ones with the fancy holes in them.

2: The, "oversized" ones. You know, the ones with bodys that are like the size of a elephant.

Wow, I love this post. I thought I was the only one to think that an artificially beat up guitar is somehow worth more than a perfect one. The idea that some non playing collector can somehow get some "mojo" from touching a beat up guitar and that it will somhow rub off on him is insane. I look at guitars like I look at cars. The nicer it looks, the better. A beat up guitar won't sound any better that a nice one. It just will look like crap. If I ever buy a reissue, it'll be the closet classic. I don't want to pay extra for the company to beat it up for me. Period. I also agree on pointy guitars, rocket ships, axes, fuzz, etc, etc.

Hopefully Fender will take note of our rants about the "Road Worn" series.
