My sister who is 10 years older played piano and guitar and that is how I started. My oldest son sings and my youngest plays guitar. The one I never figured out was my brother who is 7 years older and taught me 80% of the music I know never learned to play.

My dad plays piano/keyboards. I play both guitar and piano.

For the most part, yes, 'am the only musician in the bunch.

Parents, no, sister, no, 5 step bros/sisters, no, stepfather no,

2 of 3 daughters have guitars their father bought them but do not even talk about playing as adults, stopped after middle school.

Wife is capable of playing piano but has not done so in decades for the most part, "plays" television.

Late wife was an orchestral violinist and duffer mandolin player and used to come and sit and read, listen to her then-much-younger husband play guitar.

'Still miss her enormously, after more than 20 years.

I am which is odd considering the size of my family. I have about 40 people related to me through aunts, uncles and first cousins alone. I'm the only one as far as I can remember.

Nope.

My Brother is the Bass Player in our Band http://www.myspace.com/thebandcontagious

My dad played in Surf Bans around Torrence Ca in the 60's and we had a Trio that played around for a while in the 90's.

My Uncle plays Harmonica and even Jammed with John MAyall at a aprivate party back in the 70's.

My dad was in a band when he was a kid in Afghanistan, his home country. He played the keyboard and tabla(a type of drum), I believe.

He's pleased to see me enjoying music, but he certainly doesn't want my hopes to to be set on making music my career of choice.
He tells me sometimes that he could've made it if he stayed in Afghanistan--I'm sure he could've.

Edit: Oh, I almost forgot!! My grandma can play some piano, and my mom can possibly pick out "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on piano, so, maybe that counts for something?

good topic Mike, my maternal grandmothers father was a country musician and had his own radio show and both my maternal and paternal grandfathers played the squeeze box
