My family on my dad's side were pretty musical, the other side only myself, and one cousin play anything.
But my dad played violin, mainly fiddle music, no classical. Among the extended family, ie my cousins, and their parents/grandparents etc. there are 6 or 7 of us that play guitar, several bassists, a couple drummers, and then in the older generation there is everything from banjo to saxophone to fiddles to hammered dulcimer to accordion (my first instrument actually,) piano to... you get the idea.

On my Mom's side of the family my Grandfather was supposed to be one hell of a singer (I never got to meet him), and two of my cousins played Guitar. One of them was the lead singer of a late '60's band called "Hamilton Streetcar" from the Los Angeles area of Calif.

On my Dad's side several generations back the whole family played guitar, fiddle, piano, drums, etc. I have an Uncle who plays Banjo.

I have 3 Brothers (RIP Carl) who all play guitar/bass/etc.

I have played (attempted to play) guitar, bass, drums, clarinet, sax, trumpet, mandolin, resonator, keyboard, violin, kazoo, and who knows what all else.

My Mom was a church organist and Dad was a choir director-although he didn't play an instrument he could sight read to the point that he could look at a piece of music he hadn't seen before and sing it.Dad's older brother was an organist and choir director, his younger brother didn't know what the notes were on a keyboard but could hear a song on the radio and sit down to the keyboard and play it using both hands.Mom's youngest brother started off playing in bands in the late 50's and all 4 of her sisters play piano. My sister plays piano and guitar her son plays in one of the provinces most popular rock bands, teaches guitar and plays several instruments. His band opened for Puddle of Mudd on their tour.Several of my cousins and cousin's kids are professional musicians.I play guitar, bass, some ukelele, mandolin, keyboards, harp, autoharp and drums so all in all I have musical roots.

My oldest son plays bass and he's actually been playing a while with a good foundation in music theory. Been taking lessons and studying a while. My youngest son played drums for a while but recently quit his lessons and got rid of his drums to focus on his X-Box skills. :?

Mother's side - many players though none of them professional. I have a late uncle who was supposed to be very talented.

Father's side - unaware of any.

I have a cousin whom I have not seen in more than 10 years (and it was prolly 15 years before that time) who claims to have once been a guitar player.

Besides him I am the only musician in my entire family.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

My grandfather on my mother's side was a country bassist. And my father at one point played guitar, and all these years later he switches to banjo. Not sure if he's still up to that or not.

And I believe my mother was in band in high school for a short period of time. But other than that, to this day, I am the only musician left in the family. Almost kind of depressing in a way. Awfully hard to relate to anyone some times. :?

My mom was a dancer when she was younger. Her brother plays the piano. They used to perform on the radio way back in the day (I used to tease her about being a dancer on the radio). She's no longer with us. Miss her so much. I know she's dancing in Heaven now like she did when she was younger.

She told me her dad played various instruments. And a few other relatives did, as well. My father had a good voice, but was more of a closet singer. Shame because he was good. On his side of the family, we have a somewhat famous cousin, though. You may have heard of him, Merle Haggard. I've never had the chance to meet him, myself. I'm a bigger Buck Owens fan, anyways. :P

On my mothers side I had a great uncle who played guitar. Mostly jazz and lounge music. His sister, my Grandmother was a drummer in a Scottish/Irish traditional band.

On my fathers side there is my uncle who taught me how to play when I was a kid and gave me my first guitar, his daughter, my cousin plays piano and drums. On that side of the family I also have a very famous aunt whos known to be a great singer but I dont name her as my band doesn't want that association to come about and nor do I.
